Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. There are few more disastrous finales in television history than Game of Thrones, with millions of fans simply calling on HBO to redo it at one point, when all else failed. The fact was that there had been five brilliant seasons of television, and two that were less good but set up the ending, all for it to be entirely blown across the course of six episodes.
There isn't a lot we can do about that now, which is why House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have been welcome and cathartic for many. If the ending of the original show still bothers you, though, there is a way you might be able to get things to play out just as you wished, very soon.
PlaySideOver on Steam, you should be able to find the store page for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, an upcoming real-time strategy release that is set to launch later this year (on an as yet unconfirmed date). In revealing the game for fans, developer PlaySide shared some short insight on the game's official page:
"In War for Westeros, chaos reigns in ruthless free-for-all battles where trust is fleeting and power is everything. Command the Great Houses in epic real-time strategy battles, forge strategic alliances, or weave deceit against your rivals."
Being able to take control of the powerful families in Westeros is where your chance to set things right comes in. Believe the Lannister's should have finished top of the pile? You can make that a reality. Want to drop some more obvious foreshadowing of Daenerys' descent into madness by being more and more cruel over time? That's an option too.
The game appears to have a Total War-esque combination of a grand strategy map with real-time battle elements. The emphasis is definitely on the latter, though, and in each battle you'll be able to deploy everything from infantry and cavalry, to dragons and giants, depending on who your chosen faction is.
Your heroes also have unique abilities that can turn the battle in your favor, and you can even play as the Night King, if only to stop him being an absolute moron when the time to conquer appears.
MoviestillsDBAs mentioned earlier, we don't have a release date beyond 2026 for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros just yet, but if it can hit the same notes as some very successful mods for games like Crusader Kings III, then we should be on to a winner, in a game that we really haven't seen for the franchise to date.
