From star Catalina Sandino Moreno gives a candid reaction to the worst death in the MGM+ horror series.

At the very end of the From season 3 finale, Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey), who has been a main character since the first episode, has his throat ripped out by the sinister Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes). However, it is not until season 4, episode 2, that Moreno's character Tabitha learns her husband has been killed. Jim and Tabitha's children Julie (Hannah Cheramy) and Ethan (Simon Webster) are the first to see his mutilated corpse hanging upside down in the Town's barn.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender, Moreno was asked about how much worse it is for Tabitha, as a mother figure, to have her children be the one to discover Jim's body. She explains that the twist is one she enjoyed as a viewer, but that it is "so mean" for the characters. While she feels horrible for Julie and Ethan, she also believes that what happened was "inevitable." Check out Moreno's comments below:

I feel that, as a viewer, it was fantastic. I'm like, "Oh my God, this is great." But as an actress, I'm like, "That's so mean!" That was just so mean.

I would never want to find my loved one in a bag. Even if it had been him in the bag, I don't want to see my loved one all banged up and see what happened to him. He's in a bag! I would have gone with my children to the barn, even if there was nothing I could do.

But I think it was inevitable what happened. I feel so bad for the kids, but then I feel that Tabitha was very brave to be like, "I'm going to open the bag." I wouldn't open the bag in real life. I would be terrified.

As Moreno alludes to, From's characters initially think that Jim's body is in the bloody bag dangling from the motel sign. It turns out to be a goat in there, and Julie and Ethan are sent away while the bag is opened, only to go to the barn where their father's body has been placed by the Man in Yellow. It is all part of his plan to torment the Matthews family and the residents in the most sadistic way possible.

While Moreno wouldn't have wanted to open the bag and would've instead gone to the barn with her children, Tabitha confronts the terrifying possibility that she is about to find her husband's body. Tabitha's bravery and her determination to unravel the Town's mysteries in order to escape has defined her journey so far. By the end of season 3, this leads to learning the vital truth about her and Jade Herrera (David Alpay), which is why the Man in Yellow kills Jim.

The painted message left in the barn along with Jim's corpse, "Knowledge comes at a cost," is a warning for the residents to stop searching for answers. There is an inevitable consequence every time the residents make progress, with new answers and triumphs leading to fresh horrors and character deaths. The importance of what Tabitha and Jade learned meant that a major character like Jim had to die in response. The Man in Yellow's reaction also indicates that the residents are getting dangerously close to the most important revelations.

Jim is not completely gone, though, as Ethan sees his father while in the woods at the end of season 4, episode 2, and Jim tells his son to find the Lake of Tears. He joins the ranks of Father Khatri (Shaun Majumder), Abby Stevens (Lisa Ryder), and Tom the bartender (Reid Price) as deceased characters who have reappeared after their deaths. How this is possible and what it means is another mystery needing to be answered as From continues. This is confirmed to be the penultimate season since the series will conclude with season 5.
