A new RPG that blends elements from Final Fantasy Tactics and the Fire Emblem franchise can be played for free right now, and if you’re looking for a new title in that genre, this may be your next big game. There are plenty of games that take inspiration from huge and classic franchises. You can, for example, already check out a new Red Dead Redemption-style RPG that was just released in Early Access. However, it’s more common to see JRPG series inspiring new creations.

Right now, you can check out a new RPG that is in the works without having to pay for it. Available on Steam, the demo for the game is entirely free and gives you access to a portion of the title that is set to be released in August this year. This demo is, of course, but a short portion of what will be a much larger game, but it will give you a sense of what to expect in terms of story, gameplay, visuals, and more.

All you have to do to play this new free demo on Steam is head on over to the game’s product page and download it. From there, it will be available in your library. The game in question is called Brigandine Abyss, a new turn-based strategy RPG developed by Adglobe. The title allows you to choose one of six different factions, build troops, and expand your bases as you face the Abyssloa Empire in Meltitea.

While the game does seem to have DNA of its own, it is clearly inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics and the majority of the core titles in the Fire Emblem series. Combat takes place on a hexagonal grid, and there will be heavy strategizing in battles to ensure victory across the various game modes. You can play the story mode, which will take you through the campaign, or the mission mode, where you must beat enemies while accomplishing certain tasks.

If you’re a fan of the aforementioned titles, Brigandine Abyss may be a great game to play to supplement the need for a tactical-based RPG – Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles was released last year, and the release of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is planned for later this year, though a specific date hasn’t been announced.

While you won’t be able to play Brigandine Abyss in its entirety, you will have the opportunity to gear up for its release in August and practice your tactical thinking, in case you’re playing the new Fire Emblem game, too. This new RPG looks quite promising, so be sure to check it out.
