Fetch.ai is making its most capable AI feature available to everyone, not just paying customers. Every account on the ASI:One platform now receives three free projects to test Athena, the execution layer built for complex, multi-step tasks that go well beyond basic chatbot interactions.
The move, announced on September 5, 2026, comes roughly three weeks after Athena first launched exclusively for PRO subscribers on August 13. Opening the gates to all users signals that Fetch.ai is confident enough in the tool to let it sell itself.
What Athena actually does
The ASI:One platform previously centered on conversational AI, the kind of thing where you ask a question and get an answer. Athena is different. It’s an execution layer, meaning it doesn’t just respond to prompts but actually carries out sustained, multi-step projects.
Think of it less like talking to a chatbot and more like assigning work to a junior analyst who happens to have access to over 50 specialized skills and tools. Those skills span financial modeling, data analysis, in-depth research, and report generation.
Importantly, Athena is not a standalone model. It sits on top of ASI:One’s existing infrastructure, integrating reasoning, planning, tool use, and agent discovery through the Agentverse. The platform essentially orchestrates multiple AI agents to tackle a single complex project, coordinating their work across multiple interactions rather than treating each prompt as an isolated event.
Why free access matters for adoption
Three free projects per account might sound modest, but the strategy is straightforward: let users experience the difference between asking a question and delegating a project. Once someone runs a financial model or generates a comprehensive research report through Athena, the friction of going back to simple chat-based tools becomes obvious.
