When Disney+ first launched in 2019, the biggest show it had to offer was The Mandalorian, the Star Wars offshoot starring Pedro Pascal. Disney has since released countless original shows, some of which caught the attention of audiences more than others, but it’s also the home for some of the biggest franchises in the world. In addition to the entire library of Star Wars projects, Disney+ also houses every Marvel movie and TV show dating back to Robert Downey Jr.’s first Iron Man. However, Disney+ has expanded its streaming empire in the last few years by acquiring the rights to several large fantasy IPs.
One of the bigger gambles Disney has taken in the last few years was the acquisition of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the hit series of novels written by Rick Riordan. There was an attempt in the early 2010s to turn the Percy Jackson book series into a film franchise, but this failed. Disney has now tried its hand at a new series, led by Walker Scobell, with author Rick Riordan heavily involved in bringing the show to the screen. Riordan works with Jonathan E. Steinberg, Daphne Olive, and a team full of talented writers to bring the show to life.
The first two seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians are streaming on Disney+. Although the show went off the air more than two weeks ago, it’s still one of the top 10 most popular series on Disney+ at the time of writing. The show stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, and Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue.
What Do We Know About ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Season 3?
Around the same time that Disney+ released the Season 2 finale for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the streamer also released the first teaser for Season 3, confirming it would premiere before the end of the year. The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians adapted Book 1 in Riordan’s series, The Lightning Thief, and Season 2 adapted Book 2, The Sea of Monsters. Season 3 will adapt Book 3, The Titan’s Curse. Dafne Keen (Deadpool & Wolverine) has joined the cast of Percy Jackson Season 3 as Artemis.
Watch the first two seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates on Season 3.
