James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
Fallout: New Vegas still holds its position as the best game in the series for many franchise fans, with Obsidian Entertainment's effort serving as the game that's most fondly remembered by fans for all the different ways that an individual playthrough could go, depending on the decisions the player makes.
It has somehow been a decade and a half since it dropped for the first time, but it's going through a bit of a resurgence right now, with the location appearing in the recent Prime Video adaptation's second season.
As part of all of that, Bethesda is releasing a 15th Anniversary Collector's Bundle that features some nice physical items for your home alongside the Ultimate Edition of the game on PC. Outside of that though, dedicated fans of the game have just ported it over to an entirely new medium, and it looks set to bring the Mojave wasteland to life like never before.
Fallout: New Vegas In VR Is A Game-Changer
Over on Twitter/X, you can find a video from VRified Games showcasing Fallout: New Vegas running in VR with 6 D.O.F motion controls. If you aren't familiar with the concept, D.O.F stands for Degrees of Freedom, which essentially dictates the number of independent axes a character can move or look, with six being the highest possible.
That should make the VR experience in New Vegas mightily impressive to control and play, as well as making the world that Obsidian created more immersive than ever. Actually, standing face to face with characters like Robert House and Caesar really does sound like a bit of a dream come true, and it's kind of crazy to think that it hasn't been made a reality sooner.
The mod required to get it all working is Fallout New Virtual Reality, available via Nexus Mods, and while it is a free download, you will need third-party software like VorpX, which usually comes at a cost.
This Should Keep You Busy Till Fallout 5
Given that Todd Howard has confirmed that we aren't getting Fallout 5 until after The Elder Scrolls VI, with the latter yet to have any meaningful updates on its release schedule, it's safe to say that we are still years away from a new release in the post-apocalyptic franchise.
That leaves the immense Fallout modding community as the best port of call for new experiences in the meantime, and few are going to be as vastly different to play as the VR mod above.
