Jane Austen’s classic Sense and Sensibility has been adapted for the big screen once more.

Come fall, the Focus Features and Working Title film will arrive in theaters, following in the footsteps of the 1995 film adaptation directed by Ang Lee from an Oscar-winning script adapted by Emma Thompson.

When will Georgia Oakley’s Sense and Sensibility movie come out?

The film arrives in theaters Oct. 16 alongside Disney and 20th Century Studios’ adaptation of Daniel Kraus’ Whalefall, starring Austin Abrams and Josh Brolin.

Who is in the new version of Sense and Sensibility?

Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing, Twisters) will star as Elinor Dashwood, the role played by Emma Thompson in the 1995 version of the film. Esmé Creed-Miles will portray Marianne Dashwood, previously portrayed by Kate Winslet in Lee’s film.

Georgia Oakley directs from a script by bestselling author Diana Reid. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films will produce alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett.

What is Sense and Sensibility about?

Austen’s debut novel was originally published with the attribution “By A Lady” in 1811. The sisters it centers, Elinor and Marianne, are as opposite as they can get in their coming of age, navigation of 18th century England’s societal expectations and methods of coping with loss and grief.
