Now that the Spring 2026 anime season is officially underway, fans have an absolutely packed lineup to look forward to courtesy of Crunchyroll. This season highlights the return of some of the best isekai anime of all time, delivering major sequels like Re:ZERO and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

Oddly enough, the must-watch anime of the month isn't actually from this new lineup at all. Instead, it is a celebrated classic that originally dropped over a decade ago. Every year, right around the time when the weather gets warmer and the cherry blossoms start blooming, the anime fandom always returns to this heartbreaking classic. Even though this A-1 Pictures hit originally came out over ten years ago, it still claims a permanent spot on the annual spring watchlist.

A Decade Later, Kōsei & Kaori's Tragic Journey Is Still Worth The Heartbreak

A Still From Your Lie In April

Now that April is finally here, with it comes the ritual of rewatching Your Lie in April. Going back through the episodes always brings up plenty of sad memories. Still, even with full knowledge of how devastating the finale will be, watching the entire journey unfold one more time is still worth the heartbreak.

The reason the series hits so hard is because of its beautiful story. Animated by A-1 Pictures, the series follows a former piano prodigy named Kōsei Arima. After dealing with the traumatic loss of his overly strict mother, he completely lost the ability to hear his own piano playing.

Other series may feature a couple of sad scenes, but these ones are emotional from the beginning to the end. Warning: tissues are advised!

Because of that trauma, Kōsei entire life feels completely stuck in a colorless routine until he finally meets a violinist named Kaori Miyazono. Refusing to take no for an answer, Kaori pulls Kōsei out of his retirement and drags him back into the competitive music scene, slowly helping him see the bright colors of the world once again.

Your Lie In April's Flawless Instrument Animation Still Holds Up A Decade Later

A Still From Your Lie In April

A major part of why Your Lie in April remains so timeless is its dedication to the music itself. Instead of taking the easy way out during the big concert scenes, A-1 Pictures went out of their way to perfectly capture the musicians' actual body language. They worked incredibly hard to ensure that every single finger movement on the piano keys and every pull of the violin bow perfectly matched the real notes happening on screen.

Because the studio focused so heavily on getting those small details right, the stage performances end up carrying all the heavy emotional drama for the story. When the main cast struggles to find the right words to say out loud, they just let their musical instruments speak for them instead.

Rewatching Your Lie In April Is The Perfect Break From Spring 2026's Action-Heavy Lineup

A Still From Your Lie In April

Revisiting a classic anime like Your Lie in April is something that somehow hits just as hard every single time. Even when viewers already know exactly what is going to happen next and how the entire story wraps up for the cast, going through that emotional rollercoaster again is always worth the time.

With the 2026 spring anime lineup being absolutely packed with action-heavy sequels, taking a break to watch a story focused entirely on the characters is a fantastic change of pace. The series is obviously famous for being incredibly sad, but it earns those tears without ever relying on forced drama.

For longtime viewers doing their annual rewatch, the true mystery is no longer about what happens in the story, but exactly which episode will finally break their hearts this year. At this point, the only thing more reliable than the spring season itself is watching the whole anime community come together to accept their tragic role as "Friend A." Because of that, anyone pressing play really needs to have a box of tissues ready to go, as experiencing Your Lie In April’s heartbreak one more time is basically guaranteed.
