Off Campus, the Prime adaptation of Elle Kennedy's 'The Deal', has finally landed on streaming (with more season one couples than book fans may have expected). Briar U students are fake dating, making out, breaking up, and trying to find love - but not every pair has the kind of chemistry that sets others on fire.

Throughout the first season, the majority of the core crew have multiple relationships, which makes considering their chemistry even more interesting - not everyone is endgame. A few are left out, of course. Tucker spends more time in the kitchen than the bedroom, and Jules spends their time significantly more concerned with running their socials than with dating.

But Garrett, Dean, Hannah, Allie, and even Logan more than make up for it with multiple romantic storylines crossing paths all at once.

Obviously, Garrett and Hannah are the OTP of Off Campus season one, but it looks like the show is deviating from book order for season two, with Allie and Dean taking center stage (right where Allie deserves to be). Thankfully, they have the connection to carry it off, but which of the Briar U dynamics really lit the show on fire, and which fell a little bit flat?

7 Garrett and Kendall

It's not particularly surprising that this pairing doesn't exactly have sparks flying, given that the whole point of their dynamic is that Garrett isn't emotionally invested. Despite that, the friends-with-benefits relationship that Garrett and Kendall have at the start of the season seems entirely benefits, and not much in the way of friends.

It could be because they end things almost immediately, so they are never shown being flirtatious or sweet with each other, but given that Kendall knows absolutely nothing about Garett (beyond the fact that he is a hot hockey player), it's unlikely that they ever had much real chemistry at all. Seeing the two come to a better, more respectful place in the end was a nice touch, though!

6 Hannah and Logan

Logan standing in the gym in Off Campus

While Hannah and Logan never actually stand a chance, in either the books or the series, they deserve a mention for having a little chemistry, even just for a moment. Logan, of course, starts pining after Hannah fairly quickly, but keeps away because of her deal with Garrett (and eventually, because he is a good friend above all else, and knows Garrett has fallen for her). His puppy dog eyes are far from sexy, but before he reaches the unrequited lover point, the two actually have a couple of cute scenes together.

When Hannah kisses Logan, to prove that kissing Garrett means 'nothing', there's a definite spark (at least on his side). But it's when they get some time to connect in Episode 3 that it really shows up. Yes, on her end, it's just about realizing that they met before, but if Hannah and Garrett weren't endgame, this would have been a fantastic meet cute. It's not enough for real chemistry, but there is definitely a little something there.

5 Allie and Sean

In 'The Deal', Allie and Sean have a rock-solid relationship, and one of the biggest surprises of Off Campus' first season is the choice to have them fall apart so soon. Because of this, their extremely patchy chemistry was probably an intentional choice by the show. If Allie and Sean had the perfect, lovely relationship that they do in the first book, Allie's choice to start sleeping with Dean would run the risk of making her unlikable as a character.

Thankfully, Sean is so unlikable as a character himself that it's easy to root for their breakup! His lack of enthusiasm for her, especially when she reveals that she has been approached by an agent, goes a long way to undo their earlier moments as a cute couple. That said, those early moments do include some great ones, and the pair aren't entirely lacking in chemistry when they are working well. Had Off Campus chosen to follow 'The Deal' more closely, these two would likely have had a much better on-screen connection.

4 Allie and Hunter Davenport

Allie and Hunter (or, rather, Allie and Carter St James the 5th) manage some definite heat - both in their initial meeting at the bar, and later when she picks him up for what was supposed to be a one-time thing with someone she wouldn't see again. There are real sparks here, especially when they first meet (even if she is too busy falling for Dean to follow through on it at the time), and their first kiss is electric. And managing any chemistry at all while wearing that truly trite, preppy sweater is an impressive move on the part of actor Charlie Evans.

Despite Allie and Dean realizing that they should be together, it's clear that Off Campus is setting up for something of a love triangle trope in Season Two, and the great chemistry between Allie and Hunter is definitely going to go a long way for that storyline. The only real limiting factor to their chemistry is Allie's feelings for Dean - if she met Hunter first, they may well have been the ones to get together. And it seems that Dean knows this too, and that's what is going to make season two especially juicy!

3 Hannah and Garrett

Hannah and Garrett on the bed in Off Campus

The couple who should have had the most chemistry in the entire season, sadly fell just a little bit short. They have some great moments, for sure - the first kiss in the gym has great tension, and they have a handful of other moments in the lead-up where the air between them positively crackles. Their mutual masturbation scene is also one of the best in the show - a true giggling, feet-kicking moment for romance fans.

Despite these few really standout moments, though, there are times where they really do feel more like friends than two people desperately lusting after each other. Garrett's cockiness is intentionally toned down for the show (understandably, as it's difficult to guarantee that his book-accurate personality would land with viewers), but that leads to a loss of some of the best parts of the pairing. There are glimpses of it, though, and when Garrett is challenging Hannah (or telling her to "think like a f**kboy"), that's when the chemistry really shines.

Special mention for him being so besotted that he forgets there is a naked woman in his room that he was having sex with literally moments before, just because Hannah shows up.

2 Hannah and Justin

Garrett is the better choice for Hannah, no doubt. They are good for each other, and their relationship is built on their unlikely friendship. Hannah's relationship with Justin is built on almost nothing, beyond the simple fact that Hannah thinks he is gorgeous, and he's a musician. It's certainly enough for a great crush, but not for a relationship.

All that said - it makes for some truly excellent chemistry. Even as Justin is being a bit of a patronizing idiot, Hannah's desperate longing for him to want her comes through. He manages the lead-singer-of-the-band attraction extremely well, and their multi-episode arc of looking longingly at each other (when the other isn't looking, of course!) is absolutely delicious. Hannah's nervousness around him does a lot of the work here, too, which is exactly how it should be - and their scene on the piano? Perfection.

Justin may be a bit of a f**kboy himself, and he's only interested in Hannah for being unavailable, but their chemistry is undeniable, and deeply believable.

1 Allie and Dean

Allie & Dean at the Halloween party in Off Campus

The real standout couple of the season was Allie and Dean. Mika Abdalla is absolutely magnetic as Allie (her stunning wardrobe certainly helps, too), and Stephen Kalyn has just the right balance of vulnerable and overly confident as Dean. Together, they are magical, even well before the show reveals just how long they have been, ahem, making magic together.

Off Campus sets Dean and Allie up almost as early as Hannah and Garrett, but their connection is much more subtle at first. From the way they both talk about sex, and about having fun, that positions them as a good pairing, all the way to the Halloween party where J-Lo and Maverick first really connect, there's a lot of space for the sexual tension to build up. Their sex montage is fantastic, believable, and hits all the right notes of being sexy and funny (the vibrator in the bathtub is one of the best moments in the show), and the added tension of a secret relationship is a top-tier romance trope.

While it may seem strange that Allie and Dean had significantly more chemistry than Hannah and Garrett, it's a fantastic sign for season 2. Dean is already running around punching Davenport (and only partially for the mystery wrong he perpetrated on Dean's sister), he and Allie have lots of space to fight about it, Allie and Hunter may have a moment or two left in the can themselves, and the best part of all of it is that we know that Off Campus season 2 is guaranteed to sizzle.

The worst part of it is that we have to wait for it to arrive!
