Emma Corrin has shed light on being 'put in a box' due to being nonbinary.

The star came out as queer in 2021 and updated their pronouns to they/them in summer 2022, having initially used she/they before moving exclusively to they/them.

Alongside a stunning shoot for Harper's Bazaar UK, they said of the backlash: 'I think people always want answers because they feel there is security in certainty. So they want to put you in a box. But I think we all do that to some extent.'

Emma also gave rare insight into their romance with actor Zachary Hart, whom they started dating in 2025, and he is 'the one'.

They are currently blazing the promo trail for Dolly Alderton's new Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, in which they star as Elizabeth Bennet.

The anticipated new interpretation of Austen's most adapted novel – this will be the 17th screen version – arrives on the streaming service in December.

The avant garde accompanying shoot featured a series of striking shots with Emma's edgy sheared hairdo highlighting their striking looks.

Speaking further about opening themselves up, they went on: 'I think I'm more guarded as I've got older – I've become more introverted.'

Emma and Zachary met in early 2025 while filming Anton Chekhov's The Seagull.

Their relationship came shortly after Emma's split from Hollywood star Rami Malek in April 2025 after two years together.

When asked about qualities they value most in a partner, they said: 'Their mind. Someone you belly-laugh with, who is constantly curious and evolving with you. He [their partner, actor Zachary Hart] challenges me all the time.'

Despite the rare tease of the information, they said of discussing their private life: 'If you talk about it, people have a right to ask questions. Though I'm the biggest consumer of what's going on!'

On feeling more certain about who they are in their thirties, Emma said: 'I think you're figuring out who you are in your twenties; you're charging through and making mistakes, but you're up for the chaos and the ride of it...

'Now I've landed in my thirties, I feel much more certain about who I want to be, who I am. Well, not that it's done… I think it's lovely to be always questioning.'

Emma gave fascinating insight into playing Elizabeth Bennet, who is a standout literary character thanks to her wit and boundary breaking.

On this, they said: 'Lizzy's not afraid to face the world and to laugh at herself – I think I share that with her. I'm very interested in people, and I'm ready to laugh at stuff.'

When asked about not being daunted by the role, Emma went on: 'I try to put blinkers on and just be in the scene with the person, listen to them, tell the truth…

'[And] I avoid reviews. It's fairly easy to go, 'These people love it', and then when a bad one comes out, you're like, 'I should never work again.'

Last month, the filmmaker Dolly revealed that the Bennet family castmates immediately bonded during long shooting days that began in the sweltering heat of July 2025 through to snow sprinkled Christmas lunches in December.

The screenwriter reveals that 'Olivia Colman, Emma and the Bennet sisters are all on a WhatsApp group called The Bennet B**ches,' communicating non-stop on their rare hours away from each other.
