Disney+ has a new originals boss across Latin America.

The streamer has named Daniel Burman, an Argentinean filmmaker who has worked closely with The MediaPro Studio, as Head of Original Content, Disney+ LATAM.

Burman, who joins on March 25, will report to Eric Schrier, President Disney Television Studios & Global Original Television Strategy and work closely with Martín Iraola, President, The Walt Disney Company, LATAM.

He will “lead creative development across markets, cultivate new talent, and further integrate Latin American storytelling into the company’s global portfolio”, per Disney.

It’s been a transitional time for Disney in Latin America over the last few months; Diego Lerner, a 35-year veteran who was President of The Walt Disney Company, Latin America, died in December with Iraola taking over the role and Leonardo Aranguibel, who was head of production, operations & strategy at The Walt Disney Company, Latin America and was responsible for local version of Desperate Housewives and Revenge, officially left earlier this week.

Deadline understands that there has been some changes across its organization’s structure and Burman has a bigger role overseeing original content across the region.

Disney’s slate in Latin America includes series such as The Worst Trip Around the World, El Encargado, Impuros and Daughter of Fire as well as International Emmy-nominated Argentina ’78. Upcoming titles include Dear Killer Nannies, which is premiering at Series Mania.

Burman founded Oficina Burman in 2014, producing series such as Edha, Netflix’s first original series in Argentina. He sold the company to The Mediapro Studio in 2017. He is also behind Victoria Small, Yosi, the Regretful Spy, Maledictions; Cometierra and So Far So Good, which was presented at the recent Berlinale Series Market. He has also directed twelve feature films and founded BD Cine, one of Argentina’s most successful independent production companies.

“Daniel’s career reflects an extraordinary combination of artistic excellence and strategic vision,” said Schrier. “He has a proven ability to tell deeply local stories that travel globally.  His experience building creative organizations and delivering internationally recognized productions uniquely positions him to grow our local slate and elevate our original content in Latin America in ways that complement our global portfolio.”

“The region is rich with compelling stories, and Daniel is the right leader to bring them to audiences around the world. He has a strong track record of creating local content and positioning it for success on the global stage,” added Iraola.

“I am deeply excited about this opportunity. Working alongside the teams at The Walt Disney Company, where storytelling has always been a distinguishing feature, is hugely inspiring, and I hope to promote opportunities for the creative community in Latin America to develop vibrant, relevant stories that are an authentic reflection of our region,” said Burman.
