Legendary Superman nemesis Lex Luthor has a bold new role in DC lore, and is about to star alongside Bruce Wayne's Batman... as an ally?!
Recently portrayed by Nicholas Hoult in the DCU, Lex Luthor is DC's smartest man alive, second only to the Dark Knight himself. However, his latest redesign focuses not on his brains but on his brawn, as Lex unleashes his Superman-beating Warsuit.
Lex Luthor Is Officially Joining the Justice League
In recently released solicit information for Justice League Unlimited #17, DC has revealed Lex Luthor will be joining the Justice League alongside a cavalcade of other villains. But what makes Lex's inclusion special is that Dan Mora shows him wearing the Warsuit from the recent DC K.O. - a mechanized armor powerful enough to kill Superman one-on-one.

SUPER VILLAINS ON THE JLU?! In the aftermath of DC K.O., the Justice League has to work even harder to protect mankind - and that means it ' s time for new blood to face new challenges! Who will join Wonder Woman and Batman to lead the new JLU? |
|
Following the events of DC K.O., the Justice League are expanding, bringing a group of villains aboard to expand their already massive roster. Batman and Wonder Woman will lead this new unit, with iconic villains including Harley Quinn, Lobo and King Shark.
Lex Luthor will likewise take his place on the team, with Dan Mora's cover showing him wearing his new Warsuit from the DC K.O. event, complete with its yellow New God circuitry. To finally beat Superman, Lex merged his armor with New God technology and unveiled its ultimate form, including staggering new weaponry...
Lex's New Armor Has the Power of a God
During DC K.O., all DC's heroes and villains were able to choose cosmic weapons to even the playing field in a massive fighting tournament. Lex Luthor chose to upgrade his Warsuit, adding every color of Kryptonite to his armor. He can even fire the crystals as bullets, allowing him to poison Superman, turn off his powers or plunge him into a homicidal rage.
In the recent DC K.O. #4, Lex even proved his armor is capable of killing Superman outright. In that fight, he used the last of the armor's charge - a fact which made fans believe the armor was finished, and wouldn't appear outside DC K.O. However, Justice League Unlimited's cover seems to show Lex still using the suit.
It makes sense that Lex would keep his Superman-killing suit where other fighters lost their cosmic weapons. After all, he's a genius inventor who is always upgrading his tech. Having assembled a god-tier version of his Warsuit once, he's surely smart enough to do it again - but now that firepower will be on the Justice League's side... at least theoretically.
Lex has joined the Justice League before, briefly serving in the aftermath of the Forever Evil event. However, at that time, he'd just saved the planet from the Crime Syndicate when the Justice League couldn't, and was seemingly on the road to redemption.
This time, Batman and Wonder Woman know full well that Lex Luthor is a villain, and yet following DC K.O., they also know they can't afford to leave his power and genius on the bench.
Justice League Unlimited #17 is coming March 25 from DC Comics.
