Prior to Daredevil: Born Again season 1’s creative overhaul, Wilson Bethel was not expected to be brought back as Benjamin Poindexter, a.k.a. Bullseye. It was a frustrating decision considering the final moments of Daredevil season 3 foreshadowed his return, so fans of the character can be grateful that the original plan was changed. As a result, Bullseye has become one of Born Again's most significant players, with season 2 giving him an expanded role.
Among Bullseye's highlights from this past season was him donning his own costume (as opposed to wearing the Daredevil suit again) as he waged his one-man war against Wilson Fisk and the AVTF. However, that homemade outfit only lightly called back what Bullseye wears in the comic. Fortunately, Daredevil: Born Again season 3 is giving Bethel’s mentally-disturbed assassin a big upgrade for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as seen below:
Though Bethel only showed a look at the new Bullseye suit’s sleeve in his Instagram post, it’s nonetheless already a huge improvement over what he’s previously worn. More importantly, it's another example of Born Again further embracing its comic book roots as this street-level saga continues.
Daredevil: Born Again Is Finally Giving Bullseye A Proper Suit
Marvel ComicsThe Defenders corner of the MCU has a complicated history with costumes, perhaps best exemplified by how Danny Rand didn’t wear his Iron Fist uniform outside a brief flashback. Focusing on Daredevil, Matt Murdock didn’t put on his crimson suit until the end of season 1, then ditched it in season 3. In turn, Bullseye masqueraded as the Man Without Fear while killing people for Wilson Fisk, but never wore anything remotely resembling Bullseye’s duds. Even Fisk didn’t wear Kingpin’s trademark white suit until season 3.
In contrast, Daredevil: Born Again has been more open to faithful comic book looks. Matt’s Daredevil suit was a brighter shade of red in season 1, and they gave his suit a black makeover similar to what he wore in the “Shadowland” comics storyline. Hector Ayala looked like a traditional superhero when he operated as White Tiger. Despite his altered background, Muse looked like he’d been ripped straight from the page. So it’s good to see that Bullseye will get a proper suit as well in season 3.
In particular, the light-colored bullseye logo on those gloves bodes well for the same symbol being more prominently displayed on the character’s mask. It was barely noticeable on his season 2 suit, given that it was the same shade of dark blue as the rest of the ensemble. With this tweak, it brings Bethel’s Bullseye one step closer to looking more like his comic book counterpart.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 saw Poindexter behaving in a more anti-heroic manner, as he sought redemption for his past crimes. In his mind, that meant brutally murdering as many AVTF officers as possible, as well as killing Vanessa Fisk, who hired him to shoot Foggy Nelson. While Poindexter fell short of also killing Wilson Fisk, he was nonetheless instrumental in ousting his former boss from his mayoral seat by preventing Governor Marge McCaffrey’s assassination.
Bullseye was shown now working for CIA operative Mr. Charles at the end of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, taking over the position previously occupied by Luke Cage. Whether that means he’ll solely be killing on behalf of the U.S. government in season 3 or if he’ll return to his fully villainous ways remains to be seen. Whatever happens when the next collection of Born Again episodes releases in 2027, at least Bullseye will look cooler doing what he does best.
