It seems like you can never really count out Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red has said time and time again that they don't plan on making any major updates to the game going forward, but their actions say otherwise.
As of this week, fans on Reddit are celebrating a surprise April update, and things are looking better than ever for the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 Is Officially Back
You Can Check Out The Update Now
Thanks to a new update coming to the PlayStation 5 Pro, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to look better than ever on consoles. Described as a "serious upgrade" by Sony, this update allows ray tracing and 4K visuals, as well as the utilization of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
The team is especially touting the ray tracing as a perfect fit for the game's day/night cycle and the neon signs that litter Night City. There are now three PS5 Pro modes available: Ray Tracing Pro, Performance Mode (90 FPS), and Ray Tracing Pro (60 FPS with ray tracing). Naturally, fans are loving it: "Excellent work by CDPR as usual, and this is exactly how the PS5 Pro should be used. Three modes, three different fps targets, and one with RT and high fps."
Others are impressed at how far the game has come: "I must admit - I played on launch of a PS4 Pro, but I have loved this game from day one, and it has only gotten better! It def had some jank, I can't deny that, but the core of this game was always strong and it is just a tremendous amount of fun an customizability. I can't wait to see the sequel."
Some think there is still more work to be done: "All of that and there's still no FOV slider. Incredible game, but c'mon now." A few folks are even pointing out how interesting CD Projekt Red is as a company, noting that they previously did not confirm they were working on a PS5 Pro update: "CDPR a year ago: No PS5 Pro enhancements planned, sorry! CDPR now: Oops we made lots of improvements! Honestly it's totally their style. Promise nothing, then appear out of nowhere and be like hey, we changed our minds, woopsie!"
Will Cyberpunk 2077 Ever Truly Be Done?
Mods Will Keep Things Going
If this truly is the last update for Cyberpunk 2077, fans will keep the game going through mods. There's even an impressive project in development now that adds multiplayer to the game, which feels like one of the last missing links.
Without any modifications, though, Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way since its rocky launch. It's now remembered as a modern open-world classic.
