Courteney Cox has opened up about what it was like to direct her daughter Coco Arquette in her new film Evil Genius.

The 62-year-old former Friends star shares Coco, 22, with ex-husband David Arquette, 55, who is also in the movie.

Cox's true crime-dark comedy premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where the actress said she didn't have to be a 'mama bear' to her only child while making the project.

'I would be more like, "Get it together!" No, I’m just kidding,' she teased in an interview with E! News.

She explained about her daughter, 'She holds her own. I don’t need to be protective of her.'

The proud mother gushed, 'Of course, I loved having Coco on set. Everybody loved her. She’s just a little force, but she’s an incredible actor.'

It comes three months after Coco celebrated her birthday, with both of her parents sharing Instagram tributes to mark the occasion.

Cox shared two photos and added a sentimental caption reading: 'Happy Birthday Co. You are such a wise soul. Funniest person I know and my life teacher. I love you x.'

A present day photo showed the mother and daughter smiling cheek-to-cheek, while a second one was from Coco's childhood and showed the doting mom holding her only child in the ocean.

Meanwhile, Arquette, who is now married to Christina McLarty, shared two posts, including one with the caption, 'I’m so proud to be your papa @cocoarquette_ Happy 22nd Birthday! I know this is going to be a magical world.'

Coco commented under a separate post featuring three photos of them, 'I love you so much!!'

In October 2024 at the Inc. 5000 45th Annual Conference & Gala, Cox reflected on sending her daughter off to college.

She said, 'It's weird because people get upset the first year your kid goes off to school and I was like, "What's the big deal? She doesn't talk to me anyway, she's always in her room."

'Then she comes home after her first year in college and she was all mature and talking more,' she shared. 'I was like, "I don't want you to go back to college." The second year was harder for me.'

Cox and Arquette married in 1999 but divorced in 2013, three years after their separation, and have remained on amicable terms.

Evil Genius stars Patricia Arquette and David Harbour as toxic couple Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong and Bill Rothstein.

The movie, based on a true story about a fatal heist, was adapted by Courtenay Miles from the 2018 Netflix docuseries.

The 2003 'pizza bomber' robbery that the film is based on ended in the death of Brian Wells (Tom McCarthy), who was forced to rob a bank with a bomb around his neck.

Cox's ex-husband and Christine Taylor appear as bank employees in the hour-and-a-half-long feature.

And Michael Chernus, Garret Dillahunt, Danielle Macdonald and Owen Teague are also in the movie, per Deadline.
