Popular content creator Alanah Pearce is launching Charred Pictures, an indie production company focused on involving game devs in film and TV adaptation projects.
Charred Pictures’ initial slate includes three projects in various states of production: two movies based on gaming IP, and one original indie film from Pearce that has wrapped filming.
An adaptation of the “Faith: The Unholy Trinity” survival horror game trilogy is in pre-production with Pearce set as the screenwriter and Brandon Salisbury (George A. Romero’s “Resident Evil”) directing. Executive produced by Charred Pictures alongside “Faith: The Unholy Trinity” developer Airdorf Games, the film follows a young priest confronting demons, cultists and his own fractured faith amid the paranoia of the 1980s “Satanic Panic.”
Also in pre-production is “Dead Take,” a film adaptation of “House of the Dragon” star Abubakar Salim’s 2025 first-person narrative horror game of the same name from his developer Surgent Studios. Salim will co-write and co-produce the film alongside Pearce and Charred Pictures. The story “explores the seedy underbelly of Hollywood and the lengths people will go to achieve fame.”
The third project is “Godmother,” a film based on an original idea from writers Pearce and Jon Veron. Directed by Veron, the film follows Theo (“Revival” star Paige Evans) as she and her boyfriend Colby (“Krypton” star Cameron Cuffe) head into the High Desert for a romantic weekend, only to have their plans slowly encroached upon by a pair of unsettlingly friendly retirees (“9-1-1” actor Dee Wallace and “X-Men’s” Bruce Davison) with dark designs for her.
“Godmother,” which completed production in December and is set for a festival debut in 2026, is executive produced by Sean McLoughlin, better known as popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye, and produced by Craig Sherwood, Nate Lipp and Eric Miachal Kochmer.
Charred Pictures describes itself as “built on a collaborative model where developers are integrally involved across as many disciplines as possible, including writing, art, design and music, shaping adaptations that preserve the tone, intent and identity of the source materials.”
In addition to working closely with game devs, Pearce says Charred Pictures is focused on a new way of funding for its film adaptations: working with content creators who are fans of the games being adapted and want to back the projects.
“One thing that I’m doing very, very differently in regards to funding is reaching out to content creators,” Pearce told Variety. “These are YouTubers or Twitch streamers who have a lot of money and, in a lot of cases, just want to make something cool. They already have these established careers where they can continuously make money. They operate very differently to most investors in the film industry. They are also always, the people that I’m reaching out to, fans of the game. Many times, a YouTuber has never been contacted about the idea of investing in something, but they’re not against it. Instead of contacting investors who aren’t familiar with these properties, I’m also contacting investors who are fans, and in some cases, helped to popularize the games themselves. That’s not to say everything is going to be 100% funded by YouTubers or content creators or anything, but I am always going to reach out. And thus far, the two of our projects that are fully funded have been largely funded by content creators.”
An executive producer and host of multiple podcasts and the star of several YouTube channels, Pearce spent several years as a video game writer at PlayStation’s Santa Monica Studio, best known for the “God of War” video game series. Since leaving Sony to freelance, she has continued writing on various video games.
She wrote and directed an episode of animated kids’ horror series “Dark Corners,” created by Kate Siegel, and directed an episode of indie comedy TV series “The Comic Shop.” Pearce’s acting credits include those titles, as well as the film “V/H/S Beyond” and video games “Dispatch” and the upcoming “Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2.”
