Ben Brosofsky has been writing for Screen Rant since 2022 and editing since 2024. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Cinema & Media Arts. Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted.
Resident Evil remake leaks are popping up left and right these days, but the games that everyone's been talking about might not be the only ones on the table. In addition to the rumored remakes of Code Veronica, Resident Evil 0, and the original Resident Evil, another title has entered the discussion as something Capcom is allegedly considering.
According to Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem on X, "The possibility of doing a Rev 1 Remake has been tossed around" at Capcom. As the leaker points out, Resident Evil: Revelations director Kōshi Nakanishi has played a major role in steering the franchise since, most recently directing Resident Evil Requiem.
Resident Evil: Revelations Could Get A Remake
It Makes A Surprising Amount Of Sense
Resident Evil: Revelations is a lot more modern than any other Resident Evil game in the remake pipeline, but it's not hard to see the justification for a revisit. As a 3DS title, Revelations was significantly more limited by hardware than contemporary home console games of 2012.
The game makes undeniably impressive use of that hardware, and the ports to other systems soup it up even further, but it's still starting to show its age. A remake designed for home consoles could also flesh out some of the experience, as the original game is designed to fit nicely into bite-sized handheld sessions.
Revelations also plays a reasonably significant role in the overall franchise story, taking place in between the major events of Resident Evil 4 and 5 and revealing what key characters Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield were up to during that time (not including the flashbacks covered in RE5). Now that Capcom has retold Leon's story through remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 4, it could make sense to eventually follow the RE3 remake with another Jill story.
Don't Count On It Any Time Soon
There's A Lot In The Works Already
That being said, the fact that a remake "has been tossed around" is still far from confirmation that we'll ever get one. Even if a new take on Resident Evil: Revelations does enter the pipeline, it likely wouldn't come out until after the three remakes that are currently alleged to be in development, meaning that Jill likely won't return to a starring role for years to come.
Capcom might do anything to put off the delicacy of handling a Resident Evil 5 remake, though, so I wouldn't be totally surprised if Resident Evil: Revelations does eventually roll around. For now, I'll continue to plug away at the 3DS version whenever a brief session of handheld survival horror happens to fit into my schedule.
