EXCLUSIVE: Frankie Quiñones has set a development pact with Fox Entertainment Studios that will see him co-write and star in a scripted TV comedy for the studio.
The news comes ahead of the SXSW premiere of FES’s Plantman & Blondie: A Dress Up Gang Film, the first feature from comedy troupe The Dress Up Gang, of which Quiñones is a member.
“Frankie is the kind of multi-hyphenate talent we’re always looking to build with — a creator who brings an unmistakable point of view, distinct originality, and characters that resonate far beyond the laughs and comedic precision,” said Hannah Pillemer, Head of Scripted at Fox Entertainment Studios. “He has a rare ability to ground bold, irreverent comedy in heart and authenticity, and audiences connect to that in a powerful way. We’re excited to partner with Frankie to develop a series that fully showcases his voice and expands his creative footprint in a meaningful way.”
Quiñones said of the deal, “I’m thrilled to be partnering with FOX Entertainment Studios on this next chapter. Comedy has always been about bringing people together and telling stories that feel real to me, and the communities I come from.”
A Los Angeles-based comedian, writer, and actor, Quiñones is known for his viral character, Creeper, and for starring in the Hulu comedy series This Fool. Directed by Ali Wong, his one-hour special, Damn That’s Crazy, was released on Hulu earlier this year.
Currently recurring on NBC’s Denis Medical, the multi-hyphenate last year shot a role in their Untitled NBC Native American Community Center Comedy pilot. He also had a recurring role on FX’s What We Do in the Shadows and will be seen coming up in Tom Segura’s indie comedy El Tigre, as well as Netflix’s The Fifth Wheel, with Kim Kardashian, Nikki Glaser, and Kristen Wiig.
Hailing from Fox Entertainment Studios’ Tideline Entertainment banner, along with Mountain Top Pictures, Plantman & Blondie: A Dress Up Gang Film is set to premiere at SXSW on March 14. The film is an offbeat comedy following Cory, a lonely tech worker drawn into a quirky Los Angeles underground world of plant-loving vigilantes. At SXSW, Quiñones will also appear as part of the FES Comedy Showcase Featuring The Dress Up Gang and Friends, hosted by Bill Burr.
Fox Entertainment Studios is behind unscripted series like The Masked Singer, I Can See Your Voice and Name That Tune, along with scripted comedies like Animal Control, Going Dutch and Best Medicine, and scripted dramas like The Faithful: Women of the Bible. The unit also oversees the award-winning animation studio Bento Box Entertainment with animated comedies including Krapopolis, Grimsburg, Hazbin Hotel and Universal Basic Guys; entertainment platform TMZ with its primetime series TMZ Investigates; indie film label Tideline Entertainment with award-winning releases including Ponyboi and Slanted; and the culinary and lifestyle content venture Studio Ramsay Global in partnership with chef Gordon Ramsay.
Quiñones is represented by UTA, OPE Partners, and Hansen, Jacobsen, Teller.
