Dave Hughes has shared how his latest brush with cancer has made him appreciate his health.

The outspoken comedian, who in recent months has become a vocal political commentator critical of the Albanese government, has repeatedly been treated for skin cancer, and had further lesions removed on Thursday.

'I just had a couple of skin cancers cut out and had to wait two hours to see whether it was a really bad type of cancer,' the 55-year-old said in an Instagram video, which was filmed outside a hospital.

Dave said that although luckily, a more serious form of the disease was ruled out, the experience has left him feeling contemplative about the value of his life.

'It reminded me that health is wealth,' Dave continued.

'Although the government is making ridiculous decisions sending people economically broke, if you're breathing, you're winning. So remember that.'

He added in his caption: 'Where there's life, there's hope... amongst the madness, remember this.'

Dave had an earlier cancer scare in May, revealing at the time that he had five cancerous lesions removed.

The comedian stood shirtless in the street in a video shared on Instagram, in which he displayed his many bandages after undergoing surgical treatment.

Dave further explained in his caption that he'd received 45 stitches to close the wounds.

'I had five skin cancers cut off today,' Dave said in the clip.

'What's 45 stitches between friends?' he added in his caption, referring to the number of sutures he had received.

The television star had another brush with skin cancer in 2021, at that time undergoing surgery to have lesions removed by Melbourne dermatologist Jeremy Banky.

He also had surgery to remove skin cancers in 2017.

'I got my skin checked and had a couple of cancers cut out. There were parts that had to be sliced and diced, but I'm all good,' Hughes told the Herald Sun in 2021.

'If you get skin cancers cut out early, it doesn't lead to other things.'

Hughes blamed the harsh Australian sun for his repeated trips to the dermatologist.

'My skin is not meant for this climate. I always joke I should be in Ireland picking potatoes,' he said.

'My wife is always banging on at me about getting my skin checked. She wants to keep me alive, which is nice.'

Dave urged his fans to get their own skin checked regularly to safeguard against cancer.
