China Box Office: ‘Pegasus 3’ Remains in Pole Position as Holiday Slate Cools

Racing comedy “Pegasus 3” maintained its hold on the top spot at the China box office during the Feb. 27–March 1 weekend, earning RMB351.3 million ($49.5 million) in its second weekend of release, according to data from Artisan Gateway.

Produced by PMF Pictures, the film has now reached a cumulative total of $529.6 million since its debut. The story follows veteran racer Zhang Chi as he leads an underdog national team into the international Muchen 100 Rally, navigating a high-stakes environment.

Martial arts epic “Blades of the Guardians” secured the second spot for the weekend, taking in $20.3 million and pushing its total to $158.2 million. Produced by Peace Film Production, the adaptation of the popular manhua, directed by Yuen Woo-ping and starring Wu Jing, Nicholas Tse and Jet Li, follows the mercenary Dao Ma on a perilous journey across the Western Regions as he escorts a mysterious fugitive to the capital of Chang’an.

Zhang Yimou’s espionage thriller “Scare Out” held third place, adding $14.5 million for a cumulative total of $155.4 million. Produced by Damai Entertainment, and starring Jackson Yee and Zhu Yilong, the film centers on a high-stakes counterintelligence operation to plug a leak of classified data.

Animation staple “Boonie Bears: The Hidden Protector” followed in fourth with $13.5 million for a $132.1 million cumulative total. Produced by Fantawild Animation, the 12th feature in the franchise sees Briar, Bramble and Vick protect a magical creature known as the “Nian” from an entrepreneur seeking to exploit the forest’s mystical energy.

Rounding out the top five, comedy-drama “Night King” earned $4.8 million for a total of $19.7 million. Produced by Edko Films, and starring Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng, the film is set in 2012 at a fading hostess nightclub in Tsim Sha Tsui East. The story follows a stubborn manager and his cutthroat ex-wife who must join forces to save the business from a hostile corporate takeover.

Mainland China’s overall weekend grosses reached $107.9 million, while the 2026 year-to-date revenue stands at $1.41 billion, down 55.9% from the same period in 2025, according to Artisan Gateway.
