EXCLUSIVE: Glen Powell-led Chad Powers is expanding its cast, adding Colin Woodell (Pulse), Gillian Jacobs (Community), writer-comedian Carey O’Donnell and Nate Varrone (The Bear) as guest stars for Season 2.
The series is based on the ESPN and Omaha Productions segment “Eli’s Places,” where Eli Manning disguised himself in prosthetics to participate in a walk-on tryout at Penn State.
In Season 1, eight years after an unforgivable mistake nukes his promising college football career, hotshot quarterback Russ Holliday (Powell) tries to resurrect his dreams by disguising himself as Chad Powers — a talented oddball who walks on to the struggling South Georgia Catfish.
Woodell plays Jay, a charming, handsome and wealthy Catfish alum. Tricia (Wynn Everett) brings him to a Catfish game to try and recruit him as a booster.
Jacobs portrays Jerri Dougan, sister to Gerry (Colton Ryan). She is a Catfish fanatic who believes Powers taking her brother’s QB job is a conspiracy.
O’Donnell is Mr. Brent, the head of USG cheerleading.
Varrone plays Dustin, a guy who lives at the purported West Virginia residence of “Chad Powers” and is unwittingly dragged into the lie.
In addition to Powell, Season 1 cast included Perry Mattfeld as Ricky, Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as Tricia Yeager, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny and Steve Zahn as Coach Jake Hudson.
Co-created by Powell and Michael Waldron, Season 1 was executive produced by Powell, Waldron, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, Burke Magnus, Brian Lockhart, Kati Fernandez, Adam Fasullo, Luvh Rakhe and Tony Yacenda. The series is produced by 20th Television.
Woodell most recently played Rachel Sennott’s love interest in HBO’s I Love L.A. He’s known for his leading role in Netflix’s medical drama Pulse and also was lead of The Continental for Peacock. He’s repped by Entertainment 360 and Gersh.
Jacobs, known for her role as Britta on all six seasons of Community, as well as her work on Love, Invincible and The Bear, is repped by WME, Authentic Talent & Literary Management and Lichter Grossman.
Writer-comedian O’Donnell wrote on the Emmy-nominated sixth season of Billy on the Street, Heathers, Summer Camp Island, and the WGA-nominated Netflix comedy special Stand Out: An LGBTQ+ Celebration. He has two features in development with Killer Films, Linden Entertainment/ Party Over Here and Belletrist. O’Donnell is repped by UTA, Linden Entertainment and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
Varrone is an alum of The Second City Mainstage in Chicago. He was selected to perform in Comedy Central’s “Up Next” Showcase in 2019 at Clusterfest and has written for the Emmy-nominated Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News. He’s also featured in Season 2 of The Bear on FX/Hulu. Varrone is repped by Heroes and Villains Entertainment and CAA.
