Now, almost three years later, Netflix has confirmed that Beef season 2 will release all eight episodes on April 16. Along with the release date, the new 2 trailer introduces viewers to the foursome, played by Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny.
The preview, which runs for over a minute, switches between footage of the younger couple and scenes of the older pair, cutting rapidly between them as Oscar Isaac’s character explains to Spaeny why people come to his country club. It ends with Isaac’s character appearing ready to harm Mulligan’s character, though the younger couple manages to take a photo and escape. This makes him aware that the situation has turned against him. Check it out below:
The new season is shaping up to be a generational brawl, with the story taking shape when a Gen-Z couple witnesses a disturbing confrontation between Millennials, in particular, their boss and his wife. From there, the just-engaged Ashley Miller (Spaeny) and Austin Davis (Melton), junior employees at a country club, find themselves drawn into the crumbling marriage of General Manager Joshua Martín (Isaac) and his wife, Lindsay Crane-Martín (Mulligan).
This brewing conflict is made more difficult through a mix of favors and pressure, with both couples competing for the approval of the club’s billionaire owner, Chairwoman Park (Pachinko and Minari star Youn Yuh-jung). It should be noted, though, that the billionaire is dealing with her own controversy involving her second husband, Doctor Kim (Parasite lead Song Kang-ho).
Based on the way that the premise is laid out, in addition to what the minute-long trailer reveals, the headline for season 2 may as well be a fight between Gen-Z and Millennials. But it also seems to shine a spotlight on the way different couples interact, with the new Beef cast also including Seoyeon Jang, Mikaela Hoover, BM, and Prison Break alum William Fichtner. There's more to be found in the gallery below:
Isaac played Poe Dameron in Star Wars and had a leading role in the acclaimed sci-fi Ex Machina, while Mulligan has led films such as Promising Young Woman. The upcoming series marks a long-time reunion for the duo after previously playing a married couple in Drive.
Melton had breakout roles in both May December and Riverdale, while Cailee Spaeny led Priscilla and Alien Romulus recently, in addition to having a pivotal part in Mare of Easttown. It is, in a different way, a spotlight on two Hollywood generations.
Behind the scenes, Lee Sung Jin returns as showrunner and executive producer alongside Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier. Yeun and Wong also executive produce, in addition to Mulligan, Isaac, Melton, and Spaeny. They'll each bring their own spin on Beef season 2, which is returning soon.
