Britney Spears strips down to her underwear and slams dad Jamie for 'forcing' her to perform during conservatorship

Britney Spears has reflected on the 'damage' she suffered during her 13-year-long conservatorship and how she was 'forced' to perform despite being 'scared.' 

The 44-year-old pop superstar stripped down to a black bra and skimpy panties in a new Instagram video on Thursday and looked back on how she has 'changed' from being 'painfully shy' to having to perform in front of 'so many people.' 

In her caption, she wrote that at the start of her career she would 'get asthma and start shaking' if she had to meet more than 10 people.

Spears said that her father, Jamie, would have her meeting '70 people,' which she said 'literally hurt' and made her feel 'like a robot.' She added she was proud of herself for 'shutting all that down' because 'for too many years it was forced.'

Spears was famously placed under court-ordered conservatorship in February 2008 after a series of public mental health crises, hospitalizations and intense media scrutiny. The conservatorship came to an end in 2021 after nearly 14 years.

Her father, who was the primary conservator for most of her conservatorship, insisted his control of the star's finances, career and personal liberties was to protect her wellbeing, yet his daughter previously claimed it was 'abusive.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to Spears and her father's representative for comment.   

In her latest post, Spears started out the caption discussing her racy outfit and her friend's reaction to it. 

'My girlfriend was like, "Why are you wearing a rock 'n' roll bra? That's not like you at all." And she's right. It's so not something I would wear for a bra at all whatsoever, although as a performer, I did every night for "I Love Rock 'n' Roll,"' she wrote.

'Let's just say I've actually changed big time. I honestly can't believe I used to be able to perform in front of so many people. Good lord,' she went on. 

'I'm so sensitive and proud of myself for shutting all that down, 'cause for too many years it was forced.' 

'When I used to work with Felicia in my beginning days, I would get asthma and start shaking if I had to meet more than 10 people in a meet and greet. She could see in my eyes how scared I would get. My dad had me meeting 70 people, I think, during that time. I lost the sensitivity of my soul. And it literally hurt. I felt like a robot.'

Spears went on to say that during that time she 'lost a sacredness I used to have with people because I was secretly very sensitive and painfully shy.'

'I miss my real relationship I used to have with people. Honestly, I felt like a robot, a machine. And thank the lord it's over,' she wrote.

The singer then shared the video again, this time adding a new caption.

'I actually miss the way I respected people so much that there was a genuine mystery of acute oneness when we were together, which was sacred,' she wrote. 

'I feel like, still to this day, people don't realize the real damage that was done to my heart and soul in the conservatorship.'

'But it's bizarre. I was painfully shy, but I got to be someone different on stage. After having kids, though, I think that game was beyond overdone. I felt so silly and embarrassed.'

'I think it's easier when you’re younger to go there,' she added.

'Anyways, this video is actually crazy 'cause it's identical to the "Gimme More" video, but done with a version of me with 6-year-old legs and looking way younger. Crazy.'

The star then wrote that she has 'been single for so long,' adding, 'I haven't really shown my body except one time in my green bathing suit.'

'You can see here I’m actually extremely short. For some reason in paparazzi pics and in my living room, I seem to have very long legs. Maybe an illusion… the front of my house is the show stage!!!!! Yet backstage I look quite a bit different.'

The Toxic hitmaker went on to share her experience of meeting Shakira, and how she made her feel 'normal.' 

'I remember when I first came to LA, I always felt like the youngest and shortest person in the room. Then I met Shakira and she was exactly my size. We were honestly twins. It was insane. Even more so than Christina, who is actually shorter than me.'

'I remember meeting Shakira for her “Whenever, Wherever” video. She had all these cool braids and colors in her hair, and I had just woken up from a nap going there in the car, and she had just woken up from a nap in her trailer. Either way, I finally felt normal.'

Spears has had a contentious relationship with her family members for years following the end of her conservatorship in November 2021.

The pop star has faced very public personal struggles for nearly two decades. In 2007, the star famously suffered a harrowing breakdown after exhibiting worrying behavior in the months leading up to her infamous psychiatric hold.

The then 25-year-old had fans concerned after she shaved her head and attacked a paparazzi's car with a green umbrella, before she checked into a rehab facility.

In January 2008, she was put under lockdown at a facility after refusing to hand over her young son to ex Kevin Federline. She shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden 19, with Federline.

Her father Jamie was initially a co-conservator after the conservatorship arrangement started in 2008, with the attorney Andrew Wallet serving alongside him until 2019.

More recently, the singer was arrested in the evening of March 4 near her home in Ventura County, California, after police received an anonymous call about someone 'traveling at high speeds and swerving' on the road.

Spears pleaded guilty to reckless driving in connection with the incident, and was sentenced to 12 months' probation and one day of jail, credited as time served, as part of her plea deal.

She was also fined $571 and ordered to see a psychologist weekly and a psychiatrist twice a month. She checked into a rehab facility for three weeks following the arrest.
