Boruto Just Showed the Perfect Way to Shut Down His Biggest Weakness

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has already piled on the grief for its tortured hero, between his village being brainwashed against him, and the ever-present Ōtsutsuki threat inside him. Despite knowing the potential harm, or perhaps tipped off by Koji Kashin, Boruto recently struck up a bargain with Momoshiki: if he helps Boruto defeat Jura, Momoshiki can take over permanently.

Boruto's Greatest Weakness Presents a Constant Battle

Boruto has trained immensely in the time-skip between Naruto Next Generations and Two Blue Vortex, fully taking on many of his mentor, Sasuke Uchiha's quirks in the process. He is notably far more disciplined and mature than his more troublesome days as a young Genin, and this is no coincidence: Boruto must always remain in control, or Momoshiki takes over.

As seen in the past, the Kāma, which functions as a sort of biological backup of Momoshiki, will activate either when Boruto depletes his own chakra, or when he allows it himself. It allows Momoshiki to take over the boy's body and chakra, mixing his own to harness abilities including negating Sasuke's space-time ninjutsu in Naruto Next Generations chapter #54.

Such a takeover has left Boruto genuinely concerned for his friends' and family's safety, afraid of what he might do if giving over control to Momoshiki as noted in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations chapter #49. It's the main weakness preventing him from going all-out, which is what makes Sumire's sword mods in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #28 so promising.

Sumire May Have Given Boruto the Edge to Stop Momoshiki's Takeover

While it's not a sure thing, with the full extent of the Sword of Kusanagi's new enhancements not yet known, Boruto may have a way to hold Momoshiki at bay if it's a matter of chakra. Considering a full takeover would presumably alter Boruto's chakra enough with Momoshiki's own, all Boruto would need to do is hold his sword.

Boruto's sword, essentially borrowed from Sasuke and modified in chapter #28, now drains the chakra of anyone aside from Sumire, Sasuke, or Boruto. Provided Momoshiki takes over fully, any chakra of his could be countered should Boruto give into his takeover while holding the Sword of Kusanagi.

It seems to embolden Boruto's actions, with him able to sustain his Uchiha Style Blade Technique: Hagoromo while remaining focused in battle, with minimal chakra drain. Additionally, as seen in Two Blue Vortex chapters #30 against Konoha police attempting his arrest the sword's chakra absorption is vastly efficient, knocking out Boruto's opponents bloodlessly.

There are some noteworthy issues with this possibility. Boruto's Kāma state would likely mean Momoshiki's chakra is at least somewhat present in his hand markings. When Boruto opens his hand while holding his sword in chapter #31, this exposes the palm to absorb Mamushi's fire jutsu, meaning either Momoshiki's chakra isn't strong enough yet, or the sword has another purpose.

While terms are hazier on whether Momoshiki can properly be countered by the Sword of Kusanagi's scientific ninja tool mods, Boruto may now have a perfect counter against another power: Kawaki's Kokugan passed on by Isshiki Ōtsutsuki. The biggest draw of this is that, if Boruto encounters Kawaki in his Kāma state, he could absorb the Kokugan's chakra, potentially breaking its jutsu.

The Kokugan eyes' most noteworthy trait so far is their technique of Daikokuten, which sealed Naruto and Hinata into a mysterious pocket dimension. Reversing such a jutsu would bring back one of the most invaluable allies in Boruto, his father himself, during Konoha's greatest crisis at hand.

This prospect is exciting for multiple reasons. The Daikokuten kept Boruto's parents sealed away in a place unaffected by time, meaning they'll likely be unharmed even after three years.It might even mean Naruto and Hinata are still unaffected by Eida's Omnipotence. If so, this would be a fascinating alternative to Boruto's sword absorbing Momoshiki's chakra.

Momoshiki Isn't the Same Villain He Was Before Two Blue Vortex

While allowing an Ōtsutsuki to run amok in the shinobi world is unlikely, especially given Konoha's brainwashed state believing Boruto is already of the clan himself, he has already shown a diminished interest in harvesting Earth's chakra. He mostly just wishes for Boruto's death, so his soul can be released, especially since he has no body to return to.

Momoshiki has even acknowledged it in recent chapters, him agreeing with his vessel in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #29.

Momoshiki did, however, say that he wouldn't let himself die so easily the moment they defeat the Divine Trees and Kawaki comes to finish him off. In fact, Momoshiki thinks he'd still kill Kawaki first. Killing Kawaki isn't so much an attempt to throw Boruto's bargaining off as it is a matter of pride for him, now.

Letting Momoshiki's soul die is ultimately his source of freedom, and would be a unique sendoff for an Ōtsutsuki, but it's uncertain who'd finish the job, and whether Boruto would survive. But in these possibilities, there's plenty of potential while the Divine Tree crisis continues to unfold in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
