It's hard to say anything about Bloodborne that hasn't already been discussed at length. Since its release in 2015, it's endured over a decade of popularity. The darker tone and world, combined with its more aggressive, action-oriented mechanics, are a winner, and there's also a well-received DLC expansion to boot.
Fans really took to the quality of the game right out of the gate, bolstered by From Software's pedigree and newfound success with the Souls series. Sandwiched between Dark Souls 2 and 3, it was a resplendent era for the developer. Now, fans are clamoring for an official release with an enhanced framerate, to no avail so far.
That said, there is still plenty of movement. On YouTube, fans are loving the new first-person mode for Bloodborne. It once again proves that this game will never end, even if Sony and From Software can't reach an agreement on an updated PS5 edition anytime soon.
As usual, the community is responsible for the long tail of Bloodborne, and this mod is further proof. Housed on NexusMods, it's a first-person mod for the Shadps4 version of Bloodborne on PC. The YouTube demonstration showcases gameplay from Central Yharnam, the first core area of the game that funnels into the rest of the adventure.
It completely transforms Bloodborne by requiring even greater spatial awareness, given the shift in field of view and first-person camera angle. While intensely complicated from an official angle, it adds a new dimension to everything and even creates more action-based jump scares.
That said, the first-person nature obviously is not congruent with how the game was initially designed, and you might miss a few reveals occasionally, looking away from areas that trigger hazards and enemies popping out.
You might have seen a lot of community efforts popping up for Bloodborne over the years, and that's no coincidence. It's still celebrated as one of the best games From Software has released to date, which is why the Return to Yharnam event is held every year. It's a way for the community to come together and celebrate at the same time, and to usher in new players who will, in turn, serve as guides down the line.
That said, it's high time that we get an official PS5 edition at some point. With even more people in the mix and a better frame rate, it'll do Bloodborne justice. Plus, it wouldn't hurt if there were some extras in there, like more Chalice dungeons, or an updated browser for them.
It's a fantastic effort, meant to keep the spirit of Bloodborne and soulslikes alive. Given how multiplayer and hint-based mechanics are such huge parts of these games, From Software kind of baked in this type of long-term support.
