BBC Sport presenter Kelly Somers reveals she's pregnant with her second child after battle with PCOS

BBC Sport presenter Kelly Somers has announced she is expecting her second child after keeping her pregnancy secret during the summer's World Cup coverage.

Kelly, 35, has said her pregnancy is 'beyond my wildest dreams' after experiencing decades of health issues.

The broadcaster, who shares a two-year-old daughter with her fiancé Max, shared her news in an Instagram post this week, uploading a series of polaroid photos as she joked: 'So, I didn't just overeat in America… Beyond my wildest dreams - soon to be mama of two.'

In a new interview, Kelly has admitted she feared she would never be a mother due to her polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). 

The hormone condition often affects fertility, with between 70 and 80 per cent of sufferers struggling to conceive naturally.

It took Kelly years to get a diagnosis after struggling with painful periods, cycles which were often 45 days long and a mistaken diagnosis of endometriosis, which led her close to having surgery before she backed out at the last minute.

She was eventually diagnosed with PCOS in her late 20s. 

'I had to fight for years to get answers,' she has told The Telegraph. 

'Constantly being told I was fine while knowing I really wasn't isn't good enough. Women's health needs to be taken seriously.'

She added that she is thankful she didn't need fertility treatment after the diagnosis, and just had to have a series of scans to establish when she was ovulating. 

She was expecting months later and her daughter was born in November 2023.

After her daughter's birth though Kelly was diagnosed with adenomyosis – a condition where tissue from the inner lining of the womb grows into the outer muscular wall of the womb.

'I just remember my heart sinking again and thinking, "What next?",' she recalled and added that the new health issue pushed her to try for another child sooner than planned. 

With a new baby on the way and her busy BBC schedule, Kelly and her fiancé Max are now struggling to find time to get married, six years after his pandemic proposal. 

She has joked the two may have to wait until 2040 after previously putting their plans on hold for their daughter, World Cups and a house move. 

Kelly was pregnant during this summer's World Cup, revealing she started the tournament a size 8 and ended it a size 12. 

The tournament was also memorable as she went viral for what Wayne Rooney deemed 'the best interview I've ever seen'.

After England's nail-biting clash with Mexico, Kelly was tasked with talking to captain Harry Kane, who had lost his voice after belting out Wonderwall in the stadium, making for a hilarious interview.
