Astro Bot Fans Mark Calendars For Official Sequel Announcement

3 weeks ago 28

It's been almost a full two years since Astro Bot first released back in 2024, going on to become one of the most popular PlayStation 5 exclusives of all time. It would eventually take the Game of the Year title, beating out huge releases like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, Balatro, and Black Myth: Wukong.

Since its release, Astro Bot has seen several DLC releases as well, giving players multiple exciting new challenges to overcome in addition to the base game, with the most recent Vicious Void DLC launching last summer to the surprise of fans worldwide. However, things have been relatively silent on the Astro Bot front so far in 2026, and players are starting to wonder if a major new announcement for Astro Bot 2 could be on the near horizon (via Reddit).

Earlier this week, in response to an officially confirmed PlayStation State of Play set for Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 5:00 PM EST, gamers have started speculating that it may be the perfect opportunity for Sony to announce an official Astro Bot sequel. While the showcase is expected to provide an extended look at Marvel’s Wolverine, it's also set to run for over an hour and will feature new game announcements.

As such, PlayStation gamers across every major fandom have started to get their hopes up for a major announcement of a new project from their favorite IP. These predictions range from the extremely unlikely Bloodborne 2 sequel to a new inFAMOUS game all the way to something new from the Uncharted franchise, while more realistic predictions hone in on a likely Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet announcement or trailer reveal.

However, while these games are certainly possible, fans argue that an Astro Bot 2 announcement could be imminent given the time since the game's release, the deafening silence from developers since the previous DLC last July, and the likely development window between Astro Bot games. Zhukov-74 is hoping one of the new announcements at June's State of Play is "perhaps Astro Bot 2," going on to point out that "It has been nearly 2 years since Astro Bot released."

As hardcore Astro Bot fans already know, there was about a 3.5–4 year gap after the release of Astro's Playroom, the free PlayStation 5 demo game from Team Asobi that acted as a precursor to the full Astro Bot launch. Looking at the timeline, assuming Team Asobi has been developing Astro Bot 2 behind the scenes for a while now, it wouldn't be completely out of the question that an announcement for the official sequel would drop sometime this year or next.

That said, the Astro Bot sequel announcement remains purely speculative at this point, and fans are skeptical that it would happen this soon. Beginning-Dentist610 thinks it could take at least until 2027 or 2028, highlighting that, "a sequel could take less [time], but Astro Bot itself was technically a sequel to the VR game Rescue Mission and Astro's Playroom with some assets used from both, and it still took 3.5 years."

Regardless of how likely an Astro Bot 2 announcement is for this upcoming State of Play, fans will be keeping their fingers crossed and watching closely when it airs on June 2.
