Ever since the remake for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag was officially showcased last week, fans have been buzzing about what potential remakes the series could come out with next. Having not only offered a complete visual overhaul from the ground up, Black Flag Resycned even removed some of the original's most frustrating aspects, while offering several major gameplay upgrades and story expansion to make it more than worth revisiting.
With Ubisoft clearly showing they know how to properly revisit older entries in the series, there's even more reason to be excited over the next remake on the horizon. With Ubisoft having openly said that fans can expect more remakes in the future to modernize the more outdated titles, some recent leaks noted by The Phrasemaker suggest we're in for a remake of the Assassin's Creed game that desperately needs it the most.
Supposedly returning to the very first Assassin's Creed game for the upcoming remake, fans on Reddit, in response to user Tempastaaa sharing the rumored news, have been going through a wave of speculation over what the experience could be like and how great a choice it is by Ubisoft.
While several fans have expressed interest in a remake trilogy for Ezio, others have pointed out that "It would be weird to skip AC1 and just do AC2" especially given how "AC1 and AC2's story is deeply tied with Desmond's story."
Although it's true that Ezio is certainly a fan-favorite choice, especially for a new remake, it's hard to argue that the original Assassin's Creed not only deserves, but certainly needs it, with fans pointing out how "the setting is awesome, but the gameplay is dull by more recent standards". Even if fans can appreciate the grounded gameplay and "more serious tone of AC1", a remake would certainly offer a more impactful and replayable experience.
Needless to say, given how outdated the visuals, parkour, and combat mechanics are in Assassin's Creed 1, fans are on the right track in thinking that "AC1 would need a LOT of work" to make it enjoyable for modern audiences. Even with its drawbacks and limited parkour options, AC1 is still fondly remembered for its grounded storyline and characters, which could even see expanded in new content to lead into its sequels more.
Thankfully, plenty of games in the Assassin's Creed series are playable for free right now on Game Pass or PlayStation Plus, allowing you to catch up on the series while waiting for the release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Assassin's Creed HEXE, or even the supposed release of the original Assassin's Creed 1 remake.
