EXCLUSIVE: Arclight Studios and Hollywood Expansion Corporation have jointly acquired worldwide rights to feature film Ethan Almighty, inspired by the rescue dog whose survival captivated millions and helped spark real legislative change.
The film, written and directed by Tane McClure, is currently underway in Kentucky with Sean Patrick Flanery, Selma Blair, Finley Rose Slater, Brandon Routh, Trevor Donovan and Kelly Sullivan in the cast, and additions expected in the coming weeks.
Flanery plays real-life animal rights activist Jeff Callaway who saved the life of a severely abused dog Ethan, found abandoned in 2021 at the Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville.
Emaciated and near death, Ethan’s remarkable recovery — and the extraordinary bond formed between Callaway and the dog during months of rehabilitation — galvanized public attention across the country. The widespread outcry over Ethan’s abuse ultimately contributed to the passing of “Ethan’s Law” in Kentucky, landmark legislation strengthening penalties for animal cruelty and expanding protections for abused animals statewide.
Positioning Ethan Almighty as both a major inspirational motion picture and a global impact-driven brand, Arclight Studios and Hollywood Expansion Corporation say their strategic collaboration is designed to extend far beyond traditional film distribution.
Leveraging Arclight’s international sales, finance, and distribution infrastructure, the companies plan to position the film for worldwide theatrical, streaming, television, and international release opportunities, while simultaneously building a broader franchise centered around compassion, animal wellness, rescue advocacy, family entertainment, and socially conscious consumer engagement.
In addition to participating in the film’s worldwide sales and distribution alongside Arclight, Hollywood Expansion Corporation — led by Stephanie Garvin and Marie Ralston — is developing Ethan Almighty into a multi-platform inspirational brand spanning charitable initiatives, licensing opportunities, audience engagement campaigns, rescue awareness programs, and mission-driven consumer products designed to create meaningful long-term global impact.
“This film is about hope, resilience, healing, and the profound impact compassion can have on both people and animals,” said Garvin. “The true story behind Ethan Almighty has already inspired millions, and we believe this film will continue that impact globally.”
Writer-director McClure added, “What drew me to this story was the incredible emotional connection between Ethan and Jeff. Their journey represents perseverance, unconditional love, and the ability for one story to create real change in the world.”
McClure is producing through McClure Films alongside Michelle Alexandria for Light Year Pictures, Stephanie Garvin, and Lisanne Canty of Harrington Legacy Media. Executive producers include Gary Hamilton and Ying Ye for Arclight, Convoke Media, Michael Olsen of Motion Media Group, Stephanie Garvin, and Lisanne Canty.
With production now underway and international buyers converging on Cannes this week, Ethan Almighty is already emerging as one of the most anticipated inspirational films heading into the global marketplace — blending emotionally powerful storytelling with a real-world movement rooted in healing, resilience, and compassion.
