Chris Pratt's epic Western thriller is about to arrive on streaming.
Pratt has been professionally acting for over 25 years, chiefly gaining recognition in the first decade of his career through TV shows like Everwood, The O.C., and Parks & Recreation. However, his career was catapulted to new heights when he played Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, in Guardians of the Galaxy. While continuing to play Quill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pratt cemented himself as a movie star through various other movies.
From being chased by dinosaurs as Owen Grady in the first three Jurassic World movies to voicing animated favorites like Mario and Garfield, the actor has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors. Those early years of heightened fame post-Guardians of the Galaxy also saw him starring in a hardcore remake of one of the best Western movies that made $164 million at the worldwide box office. Starting next week, this movie will be available to stream for free.
On June 1, 2026, The Magnificent Seven will begin streaming on Pluto TV for the first time. This PG-13-rated flick is a remake of the critically acclaimed, same-named Western released in 1960 starring actors like Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, and Charles Bronson. The original version of The Magnificent Seven was, in turn, a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 movie Seven Samurai, which was initially retitled The Magnificent Seven for its release in the United States.
Pratt stars in The Magnificent Seven as Joshua Faraday, a gambler who’s an excellent shot and skilled at performing card tricks. Although Faraday isn’t a character in 1960’s The Magnificent Seven, he is similar in some respects to McQueen’s Vin Tanner. Faraday is one of the men who protect the town of Rose Creek from Peter Sarsgaard’s Bartholomew Bogue, a robber baron who forced the citizens to work in his gold mine.
The Magnificent Seven remake is anchored by Denzel Washington, who plays bounty hunter Sam Chisolm. Serving as a parallel to Brynner’s Chris Adams from the original movie, Chisolm handles recruiting Pratt’s Faraday and their five compatriots to protect Rose Creek. That lineup includes Ethan Hawke’s Goodnight Robicheaux, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Jack Horne, Byung-hun Lee’s Billy Rocks, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s Vasquez, and Martin Sensmeier’s Red Harvest.
Behind the scenes, Antoine Fuqua directed this version of The Magnificent Seven, and Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk wrote the script. This was film composer James Horner’s final movie, having partly composed the score before his death in June 2015. Simon Franglen was hired to finish the score.
Along with its aforementioned box office performance, 2016’s The Magnificent Seven, which celebrates its 10th anniversary on September 23, earned mixed critical reception during its theatrical run. It has a 64% rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and it has a 71% rating among users on the same platform. Pratt was nominated for a Teen Choice Award ahead of The Magnificent Seven’s release for Choice Movie Actor: AnTEENcipated.
This movie’s arrival on Pluto TV arrives a few weeks after it was reported that Michael Ealy will lead the TV adaptation of The Magnificent Seven, which is in development for MGM+. Pratt will next be seen starring opposite Jude Hill and Linda Cardellini in Way of the Warrior Kid, which comes out November 20 on Apple TV.
