Apple TV's Best New Show Just Made Its Biggest Fan Theory Impossible To Ignore

2 weeks ago 19

Warning! This post contains spoilers for Margo's Got Money Troubles season 1.

Apple TV's new comedy drama, Margo's Got Money Troubles, just concluded its first season, and the twist in the final episode has reinforced that one of the biggest fan theories about the show absolutely has to happen. Margo's Got Money Troubles, which is based on a novel, centers on Elle Fanning's Margo, a young college student who becomes a struggling single mom after an affair with her teacher. In order to pay her mounting bills, Margo begins an OnlyFans account.

What ensues is a series of mishaps that sees Margo not only facing significant financial obstacles but also, eventually, being visited by CPS, having her fitness as a mother questioned, and going all the way to court with a heated custody battle. Amid those trials is a host of storylines involving multiple supporting characters, although two of the most prominent are Margo's mother, Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and her dad, Jinx (Nick Offerman). Jinx and Shyanne are not together, nor have they been since Margo was little.

In fact, Shyanne is dating another man, Kenny (Greg Kinnear), at the beginning of the show, and she ultimately marries him about halfway through the season. For a while, it seems as though these are the family dynamics that will remain, with uncomfortable tension between Shyanne and Jinx holding steady as Kenny and Shyanne get increasingly close. However, Margo's Got Money Troubles shocked audiences with its season finale twist, suggesting a major shake-up is coming in the family—one fans have already theorized about (and been begging for).

Margo's Got Money Troubles' Season Finale Had A Massive Plot Twist

The finale of Margo's Got Money Troubles season 1 packed an emotional punch. Although the episode confirmed that Margo had been found fit to maintain custody of her infant son, Bodhi, by CPS, she nevertheless had an ongoing custody battle with the baby's father, Mark (Michael Angarano). At times, it seemed like Margo really wasn't going to hold onto custody of her son, but ultimately, the judge delivered a ruling that meant Margo still having primary custody (minus a few weekends a month) of her son.

With that conclusion, which even included a touching scene in which Mark and Margo came to some sort of understanding, it seemed like all was well that ended well. Yet, the episode instead concluded with one massive, jaw-dropping twist: Despite what everyone had thought, it wasn't Mark who called CPS to report Margo at all. It had actually been Kenny, her brand-new step-father. Margo's mother had no idea that this had happened, and she was rightfully furious.

Season 1 ends without confirming what this means for Kenny and Shyanne's marriage. Will Shyanne immediately call it quits in light of this unfathomable betrayal? Will she want to try and work through it and start anew, especially because they only just got married? Only Margo's Got Money Troubles season 2—which is already confirmed to be in the works—can tell, but all signs currently point to there being one satisfying outcome, and it's one that will make many fans quite happy.

The Fan Theory About Jinx And Shyanne Has To Come True

Jinx, Margo, and Shyanne in Margo's Got Money Troubles

Jinx and Shyanne are hardly the first on-screen exes who audiences have wanted to see end up together again in the end—that is, after all, the entire premise of The Parent Trap. This has certainly been one of the louder conversations among fans of Margo's Got Money Troubles, though, particularly because it's clear that Jinx still has feelings for Shyanne, and he has genuine remorse for how he acted when they were together. While Jinx still has plenty he has to work on, which became clear during his relapse, many viewers want to see him happy.

Earlier in the season, it felt like this would be unfair to Shyanne, who was settling into a new life and seemed happy (even if Kenny had already dropped several hints that he wasn't actually a very nice guy). With the revelation that Kenny had called CPS on Margo without a discussion with Shyanne or anyone else, however, it seems obvious that she cannot stay in that marriage. Margo will never trust or even feel comfortable around him again, and surely this is too egregious a betrayal for Shyanne to simply move past.

Granted, Shyanne could decide to leave Kenny and not end up with Jinx, but Margo's Got Money Troubles has laid the groundwork for Shyanne and Jinx to get back together, and that is something that many fans have been hoping to see.
