One of the most compelling parts of Invincible season 4 is the increased presence of Viltrumite villains. Since its inception, the series has slowly revealed more about the powerful alien race. It wasn't until this fourth season, though, that the audience truly learns just how formidable the Viltrumites are and what they are capable of.

Invincible has now established that the Viltrumites lost a huge number of their population to the purge and an extremely dangerous viral disease. The remaining Viltrumites who survived were left with one mission: to repopulate their planet by crossbreeding with other species. Because of this, the powerful race is extremely ruthless and calculating; the survival of their species depends on the success of their missions.

Characters such as Thragg and other notable Viltrumites like Conquest and Lucan serve as antagonists in Invincible season 4, but there are a few more named and important Viltrumites, too. The latest installment of Invincible has further explored these Viltrumite villains, what motivates them, and why they are so determined to wipe out entire civilizations.

Conquest

As his name suggests, Conquest was a great warrior and one of the most dangerous members of the Viltrumite Empire. Although the Viltrumites are not exactly known for their kindness, Conquest took that to another level. The ruthless warrior absolutely reveled in bloodshed and was usually deployed to handle issues that had proved problematic for other Viltrumites.

Conquest’s strength and fighting skills were first witnessed when he was sent to ensure that Mark was following the Viltrumite's plan of putting Earth under their control. Instead of coming out as the victor, Conquest was imprisoned at the end of Invincible season 3, but he escaped and rejoined his fellow Viltrumites.

The Viltrumite warrior proved time and time again that there were very few people who could defeat him in combat. Even though Mark finally put Conquest down for good in Invincible season 4, episode 6, he had to fight harder than ever for that to happen. Conquest was one of the most brutal Viltrumites, further proving the superhuman strength and stamina characteristic of his race.

Anissa

First Appearance: Invincible Season 2

Introduced in the penultimate episode of Invincible season 2, Anissa’s presence in the series indicated that the Viltrumite Empire was still keen on invading Earth. Anissa was sent to the human-occupied planet to assess whether Mark had enough strength to do what the Viltrumites expected of him. In the few moments that she was on-screen, Anissa demonstrated that she was not someone to be trifled with.

The Viltrumite warrior stood out not only because of her raw power, but because of her fierce loyalty to her race’s cause. Although some Viltrumites began to question if conquering other races was the right thing to do, Anissa remained steadfast, fully embracing the idea that weaker civilizations are meant to be dominated.

In Invincible season 4, one thing about Anissa remains true. She represents the purest form of Viltrumite ideology and is unapologetic about the moral consequences that result from her race's sense of entitlement. When it comes to her abilities, Anissa possesses the typical Viltrumite traits. She has superhuman strength and flight. However, what makes her deadly is her extreme durability. She can fight for long periods without losing steam.

Kradd

First Appearance: Invincible Season 3

Debuting in Invincible season 4, episode 5, Kradd did not have a lot of screen time compared to other members of the Viltrumite Empire introduced in the series. However, even in the few moments audiences got to see the character, it was easy to deduce that he was a master combatant who usually had the upper hand during his fights.

When Kradd joined the war against the Coalition of Planets to fulfill Grand Regent Thragg’s plan to dominate the galaxy, he was unfortunately killed by Space Racer. Kradd's death was obviously a blow to the Viltrumite Empire, particularly because the race’s numbers were already small to begin with. However, his death proved that the Coalition does have a chance, no matter how small, to defeat the Viltrumites.

Lucan

First Appearance: Invincible Season 2

Lucan was introduced during a critical moment in Invincible. After Nolan failed to execute his plan on Earth, he retreated to Thraxa, where he began his life anew. The Viltrumites, however, are not a forgiving race. As a response to Nolan’s betrayal, his fellow warriors hunted him down on the planet and took him back to Viltrum. Lucan was one of the elite enforcers sent to arrest Nolan.

During the battle that ensued between Lucan, Nolan, and Mark, it seemed Lucan wasn’t as strong as the other Viltrumites previously seen in the show, as he'd nearly been killed. However, Lucan proved to be one of the toughest warriors from the Viltrumite Empire. He not only survived Nolan’s devastating blow, but he was also able to land a kick that broke Nolan’s back.

Invincible season 4 is telling the next story in the saga, but how does it rank when compared to seasons 1, 2, and 3 of the beloved Prime Video show?

Lucan returned in Invincible season 4 alongside other Viltrumite soldiers as they prepared to fight the Coalition of Planets. The warrior’s fighting skills were, and still are, top-notch, and he continues to prove that he is a formidable opponent. Lucan’s character arc does not revolve around emotional depth or internal conflict. He instead functions as a symbol of the empire’s central belief that only the strongest deserve to rule.

Kregg

One of the highest-ranking Viltrumites, General Kregg, was introduced in Invincible season 2 and proved to be one of the toughest characters in the series. As the second in command, Kregg not only survived the Scourge, but he was entrusted with ensuring that the Viltrumites' desire to dominate the world came to pass.

The powerful race is famous for its cruelty, but General Kregg barely shows that side of himself, despite fully believing in the Viltrumite’s ideology about domination. Instead, the military leader is pragmatic and relies on his sense of control and military efficiency to get what he wants. With Kregg leading the Viltrumite army as they fight the Coalition of the Planets, the chances of them winning the war are even higher.

Thragg

First Appearance: Invincible Season 4

Thragg is the single most powerful and feared member of the Viltrumite Empire, serving as its Grand Regent and ultimate authority after the fall of the empire’s original leadership. On many levels, Thragg has shown that he isn’t just another Viltrumite warrior. He represents everything that his species holds dear: strength, genetic superiority, and ruthless conquest.

It's previously been hinted that the Viltrumites are led by a powerful being, but Thragg appears for the first time in Invincible season 4, where he becomes one of the show’s primary antagonists. What makes Thragg compelling isn’t just the fact that his people fear and respect him. The Grand Regent is merciless, calculating, rules with absolute authority, and expects nothing short of total obedience.

Of all the villains Mark has faced thus far, Thragg will be the toughest to beat, if he can even be defeated. The Viltumrite Grand Regent’s story is just beginning in Invincible season 4, and there will probably be more to see if he is still alive by the season finale. Thragg is the ultimate apex predator in the Invincible universe, and he is the perfect example of who Viltrumites are supposed to be: strong, merciless, and essentially incapable of being defeated.
