‘Days of Our Lives’ Actor Patrick Muldoon Dead at 57

Stars are remembering the days of Patrick Muldoon’s life.

After the Days of Our Lives actor, best known for playing Austin Reed on the soap opera, died from a heart attack April 19 at the age of 57, many of his costars and friends shared their fond memories and reflected on his legacy.

“This is such heartbreaking news,” Alison Sweeney—who played Samantha Brady on the hit NBC series—wrote on X April 20. “Pat was a rare kind of person—brilliantly talented, endlessly kind, and generous in spirit.”

“I was so lucky to have worked with him when I first started at Days,” she added. “He made me feel at ease right away. He brought his unique charm and humor to work every day. A truly gifted guy, and one who will be profoundly missed.”

And Lisa Rinna—who played Muldoon’s onscreen sister Billie Reed on Days—proved that their connection extended beyond TV, posting a throwback photo of the pair on Instagram Stories April 20 alongside a broken heart emoji.

But the outpouring of remembrance didn’t stop there. Indeed, Jake Getman also paid tribute to the Marlowe actor’s life.

“RIP Patrick Muldoon,” he captioned an April 20 Instagram post featuring a throwback photo of the pair at a red carpet event. “Worked with him when I was 8 on Little Dead Rotting Hood—a great guy and always kept the energy light.”

Muldoon’s manager confirmed his death to Variety April 20 after his sister Shana Muldoon-Zappa told TMZ the actor died from a heart attack while he was in the shower at his home. Muldoon-Zappa said her brother was discovered by his girlfriend, Miriam Rothbart.

In addition to his partner and sister, Muldoon is survived by his parents Deanna Muldoon and Patrick Muldoon, Sr., his brother-in-law Ahmet Zappa, niece Halo Zappa and nephew Arrow Zappa.

Though Muldoon made a name for himself through appearing in shows such as Melrose Place and films like Deadlock, he rose to fame in 1992 for his three-year run as Austin Reed in Days of Our Lives, which he reprised in 2011 and 2012.

Following his passing, the late actor’s loved ones described him to Deadline as “endlessly generous with his poetry, his humor, and his unmistakable presence.”

They added that Muldoon “loved animals and people alike, gave unforgettable hugs, and possessed a rare quality of making others feel safe and seen. Stylish, charismatic, and full of life, he embraced each day with a full-tilt, rock ’n’ roll spirit.”
