Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Sarah Pidgeon passionately kissed in the street as they filmed scenes for their new series Enigma Variation in New York.

The actor, 36, is taking on the lead role of Paul in the limited series adaptation of André Aciman's novel, which explores his romantic and sexual relationships with both women and men across roughly a decade.

Sarah will play Chloe, who has a recurring connection with Paul and encounters him at different stages, with the relationship becoming a recurring thread in his life.

It is her first role since her Emmy-nominated part as Carolyn Bessette in FX's Love Story and she is the final female character to be cast in the series.

New images from the set give a glimpse at the intense relationship between the two characters, as they hold each other and lock lips on the street in Manhattan.

Sarah, 30, was dressed in a velvet paisley jacket with a red fur collar, teamed with tights and a pair of gold slingback heels.

Aaron, who was wearing a cream polo neck jumper with a grey coat, held onto Sarah's jaw as they smooched for the camera.

The role of Paul was originally set to be played by Jeremy Allen White but he was subsequently replaced by Aaron in the role.

The author is also the mastermind behind hit novel and film, Call Me By Your Name, which won favour from fans and critics with its seductive storyline.

The cast also includes Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) who will star in the series as Claire, Paul's wife and therefore one of his major love interests.

Joining them are Riley Keough (Jay Kelly, Daisy Jones and the Six) as Maud, Devon Terrell (It's What's Inside, Barry, The Assassin) as Manfred, Nicholas Podany (Ponies, Saturday Night) as Harlan, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Hacks, Candyman) as Noah.

The film also features Peter Hermann (Younger, Blue Bloods) as Isaac, Juliana Canfield (F.A.S.T, Stereophonic) as Allie, and Francesca Cavallin as Luciana.

It is an exploration of masculinity, sexuality, and modern love in a world of endless choices, it asks the question: Will we know when we've found the one?
