If any one of us were to come face to face with an actor, musician, or other sort of celebrity that we idolized, chances would be high that we might be a bit starstruck. Whether it’s stumbling over your words or having a difficult time holding eye contact, these interactions can often render even the most trained folks speechless. But what happens when a famous person meets someone they look up to? That experience is one that Henry Thomaswas happy to open up about over the weekend at Awesome Con when he was in attendance at a panel moderated by Collider’s Maggie Lovitt alongside his fellow Flanafam favorites Carla Gugino and Katie Parker.
While opening up about the ins and outs of their work with legendary horror director Mike Flanagan, the trio shared heaps of memories from their careers, and Thomas left the audience in stitches after revealing the time he felt most starstruck. Considering that Flanagan often taps an incredibly talented lineup of top-tier performers for his projects, we wouldn’t be surprised no matter which title Thomas named, but as soon as The Fall of the House of Usher was brought into it, we knew who he was going for. “Mark Hamill was there,” Thomas said, beginning to chuckle. “I never did it. I never did it. But, Rahul Kohli, right off the bat, he comes in, and he’s like, ‘Oh Mark…’”
After being beaten to the punch by his co-star, Thomas didn’t have the guts to approach Hamill to say hello and chat with him about the craft or about the impact he left on his life as an actor, but he was sure not to let a social media moment slip through his fingers. “I took a picture of his chair — Mark Hamill’s chair — with his name on it,” the Gangs of New York alum said, adding, “And I posted it to my Instagram.”
Pi Day was Saturday (3/14), but instead of testing your pie knowledge, we're going to go a different culinary route. How much of a Bear Buff are you?
Mark Hamill and Mike Flanagan’s Collaborative Friendship
If we asked other members of The Fall of the House of Usher about their experience working on the project, many would probably echo Thomas’ sentiments. After all, the group, lovingly dubbed as the Flanafam, had been working alongside one another for quite some time before Hamill was added to the picture. And, in typical Flanagan fashion, it wasn’t the last. The pair soon followed up their breakout collaboration with Flanagan’s heartwarming and life-affirming Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, and, while no other Hamill and Flanagan projects have been announced, we’d expect more to come from the beloved filmmaker and legendary actor.
Stay tuned to Collider for more to come from Awesome Con, and head over to Netflix now to stream The Fall of the House of Usher.
