While The Boys has officially ended after a highly successfull 7 year run, the franchise is still far from over, with several new shows and even a video game adaptation with an entirely new story for fans to enjoy. Although the creators of The Boys haven't announced an additional gaming project after the release of The Boys: Trigger Warning, the first outing has already shown just how much potential the series has in video game form.
Even with the main series having concluded, there's no shortage of excellent characters or unique aspects of the world of The Boys that would be perfect to explore in more video game adaptations. Whether in the form of a 2D fighter, an open-world RPG, or even more unique projects in the VR world, the biggest question comes from which characters deserve the chance to have a starring role in The Boys' next outing.
7 Kimiko Deserves A Chance To Shine On Her Own
Image via Prime VideoHaving come a long way from her initial entry into the series and her far more diminished role in The Boys comic series, Kimiko has grown into one of the most sympathetic and well-rounded characters the TV show has to offer. Despite how far she's come in the series, Kimiko's defining character moments are often confined to being mostly tied to other characters like Frenchie.
While her independent choices started having even more impact as The Boys went on with its final season, her bittersweet ending leaves the doors open for an additional adventure in the form of a new gaming adaptation. Although Kimiko has definitely earned a vacation after everything she's lost and the number of times she's been cut in half by other supes, her unique abilities also provide some excellent gameplay potential.
With the potential for a mix of stealth gameplay and brutal close-quarters combat similar to Marvel's Wolverine, Kimiko's less flashy abilities would be easier to adapt into most genres, while offering the chance for a new emotional narrative that could tie into the organization from her backstory.
6 Black Noir Could Offer A Unique Protagonist In A Whole New Setting
Although Soldier Boy would likely be a more popular choice for a character to explore the pre-show era of The Boys universe, the fan-favorite antagonist is already getting a highly requested show of his own with Vought Rising, leaving a character like Black Noir in the perfect place for a starring adventure.
Similar to Kimiko, Black Noir would also easily lend himself to a close-quarters action game with an emphasis on stealth sections, as he's more well-known for sneaking around and working behind the scenes throughout The Boys. Whether utilizing gadgets, stealth, or quick assassinations, however, it's Black Noir himself that would make for a unique storytelling potential we only got a glimpse of in the show.
Regardless of which era a Black Noir game would choose, having Noir's hallucinations contrast with the brutality of his fighting style would easily make for a memorable experience, with the potential for diving even further into his traumatic experiences as a part of Soldier Boy's team or the back-door dealings of Vought.
5 We Could Finally Get A Speedster Game Thanks To A-Train
Despite being one of the most popular abilities in superhero fiction, super-speed has never really had a true video game adaptation aside from more family-friendly titles like the LEGO games or the Sonic franchise. While it would certainly pose some unique challenges to get right, the popularity of The Boys and A-Train's character could be just the incentive needed for a true M-Rated speedster game.
While the show already shows the destructive capabilities that a speedster like A-Train has simply by running through someone, the high-speed traversal, combat, and potential chase mechanics would make for an incredibly unique gameplay experience. Even if it's a little ambitious, A-Train's health issues could be a way to balance his fast-paced abilities in the form of a stamina meter or a similar mechanic to limit his overpowered abilities.
Even if the idea of getting a fully-fledged triple-A game starring A-Train running around an open-world city is a little unrealistic, The Boys has already shown how much narrative potential the character has with his internal struggles between morality, fame, and his own communities, with the chance for a reimagined redemption arc for the fan-favorite supe.
4 Hughie Campbell Is An Easy Go To For A 'Choose Your Own Adventure' Game
Now we already got plenty of Hughie's perspective in the series, given that he's the primary protagonist throughout all five seasons of The Boys, his position as one of the characters in the series that lacks any distinctive abilities or training makes him the perfect self-insert for a future gaming adaptation.
Having grown into a fully fledged member of the The Boys in his own right over the series already, a narrative-focused game in the style of Telltale's branching choices seems like a match made in heaven for the series, with Hughie's prior knowledge of superheroes and position as the moral compass of the group offering plenty of room for morally grey decisions, where the fate of the series lies in your own hands.
With Hughie's actor, Jack Quaid, already having plenty of experience in voice acting in other games or animated shows, being able to explore new events of the series and a well-developed relationship system could offer a completely new way to experience the story of The Boys, and even let fans carve out the exact ending they want this time around.
3 Marie Moreau Would Offer Some Fantastic Gameplay Potential
Easily one of the biggest complaints regarding the ending of The Boys was how Marie Moreau was set up to become a major player in the final battle against Homelander and Cought, before being unceremoniously sidelined into the background. While it would feel more than a bit out of place for a character that hadn't appeared in the main series to swoop in and save the day, it was still a bit disappointing that she didn't have a larger role in The Boys.
With the spinoff's full potential being far from realized, combined with the fact that Marie is now easily one of the strongest supes alive by the end of The Boys after massively developing her abilities during the events of Gen V, one of the best possible ways to utilize Marie's character would be through a video game adaptation.
As if the new perspective on supe society shown in Gen V wasn't interesting enough, Marie's abilities could make for some incredibly unique gameplay mechanics and combat abilities. From manipulating blood from enemies or environments for offensive and defensive abilities, healing factors, and even controlling the bodies of opponents, there's no shortage of creative ways to utilize Marie's abilities in an RPG setting, while further exploring the morality of her increasingly dangerous abilities.
2 Billy Butcher's Backstory Would Be One Hell Of An Adventure
While Hughie remains the main protagonist and central focus of The Boys for the majority of its runtime, it's Butcher's own mission that pushes the story along in the first place, culminating in one final act of rebellion in the finale of The Boys. Becoming an antihero in his own right after everything he's been through in the series, an investigative thriller with its fair share of combat would be the perfect fit for the charismatic Brit.
Similar to the Telltale focus that would suit a character like Hughie, an adventure starring Butcher could operate in a similar way, where you build your own crew and plan missions to take out various superheroes or attacks against Vought, with an even greater focus on combat thanks to his physical prowess and firearms training.
Even if a game starring Butcher just decides to adapt the main storyline of The Boys, it could still offer a new perspective for story moments we only get to see through Hughie's eyes originally, with control now fully in the player's hands to dish out Butcher's revenge for themselves.
1 It's Hard To Beat The Spectacle Of Playing As Homelander
Out of every antagonist we've seen across The Boys, and even superhero media in general, it's hard to find anyone who compares with Homelander's compelling screen presence. While we've already seen his story arc from start to finish in the show, The Boys' latest spinoff game has already brought back Homelander in a starring role once before, proving there's still plenty of potential for the iconic villain to make a comeback.
Although it's far more likely that we'll see Homelander star in future projects as a major villain for whoever we end up getting to play, the idea of being able to fly around and terrorize cities while training to maintain Homelander's public image could make for an incredibly unique gameplay experience, especially if players are given the freedom to either fully embrace his darker urges or try to hold them back to keep up appearances.
While there's been no shortage of 'evil Superman' parodies in recent years, the success of The Boys and popularity of Homelander as one of the series' most iconic characters offer one of the best chances at getting a gaming adaptation inspired by the concept, with the potential to offer the massive scale of destruction unlike most superhero games that came before it, and that fans expected from the season finale of The Boys.
