The Resident Evil series has no shortage of terrifying undead and mutated monstrosities to harass our favorite protagonists, but many of the most haunting moments come from the sense of helplessness when facing any of its infamous stalker enemies. Even if not everyone is a fan of their overhanging threat, there's no denying several of Resident Evil's stalkers are so scary that they're living a life of their own as instantly recognizable horror icons.
7 Lady Dimitrescu Is Imposing, But Falters With The Scare Factor
A Stalker That Still Has A Special Place In Our Hearts
Out of all the massive personalities of Resident Evil Village's four lords, Lady Dimitrescu is easily the most iconic for her gigantic figure and incredibly unique design. Even long before Village was released, Alcina Dimitrescu took the internet by storm with her striking features and massive height that made her instantly stand out from the rest of the enemies in the game.
While there's no doubting that Lady D's performance and presence are utterly imposing whenever she comes across or gets eavesdropped on by Ethan, she unfortunately isn't all that scary from a gameplay perspective.
Aside from being one of the first lords Ethan faces off against in the game, Lady Demitrescu's movements are much more predictable than those of typical Stalkers, with her slow movement and confined chase spaces making it far easier to avoid her for the majority of your time in the castle than normal.
6 Ustanak From Resident Evil 6 Is More Overlooked Than He Deserves
A Game That Doesn't Deserve A Stalker This Good
While Resident Evil 6 is typically seen as the black sheep of the family, the unconventional bioweapon that terrorizes Jake and Sherry on their journey is more menacing than many people give it credit for. Even with most of the encounters with Ustanak resulting in chase scenes or high-intensity boss battles, the unrelenting nature of the stalker and its adaptability make for a frightening foe in every encounter.
Often forcing Sherry and Jake to run for their lives or even hide in dumpsters rather than try to fight the near-invincible monster, Ustanak's unwavering dedication and imposing presence are a sight to behold in Resident Evil 6. Even without a full-blown mutated transformation like Resident Evil's other stalkers, he still manages to be incredibly frightening all these years later.
5 Marguerite Is The Creepiest Stalker, But Easily Overcome
You'll Never Look At A Wasp Nest The Same Way Again
Having been unwillingly infected by a mold-based bioweapon, Marguerite started producing and controlling insects that have infested a large portion of the Baker property, offering some of the scariest encounters in the game. While Resident Evil's stalkers are typically imposing masses of muscle and weaponry, Resident Evil 7's Marguerite leans much more into the body horror side of the series thanks to her disfigured proportions, cannibalistic cooking, and the living hive attached to her body.
Unfortunately, while Marguerite certainly has a horrifying enough presence to stand up against the rest of Resident Evil's stalkers, we don't actually get to see that much of her acting as a typical stalker. With her crawling relegated solely to a small portion of the property's second house, which even lets you temporarily ward her off with enough ammo and bravery, she doesn't get as much time to haunt the player as the rest.
4 Resident Evil 3's Nemesis Lives Up To Its Imposing Design
Nemesis Is The Series' Poster Child For A Reason
Despite the comparatively short section of the Resident Evil 3 Remake where we get to see Nemesis live up to this history as one of Resident Evil's most iconic enemies, Nemesis is still an absolutely frightening beast. This relentless monster can stand his own against some of the most deadly monsters and protagonists in the series throughout his various iterations, which has been used as the formula for a plethora of Resident Evil bosses moving forward.
With each mutation and phase getting even more intimidating and grotesque, Nemesis feels like a truly insurmountable threat to the point where the only way to even kill him was with a massive experimental railgun. While Nemesis is easily one of the most visually striking stalkers in the Resident Evil series, his already imposing implementation in the remake failed to do him justice compared to the original game.
Even with the downgraded visuals of the original Resident Evil 3, the classic Nemesis is a danger to new and experienced players alike, with his encounters and chase sequences being some of the most unforgettable segments of the game, making it even sadder that we can't experience Nemesis' full remastered capabilities outside fan-made mods for RE3.
3 The Girl Is Easily The Scariest Part Of Resident Evil Requiem
Starting The Next Generation Of Horror With A Bang
With Resident Evil Requiem offering a mix of horror and action between its two protagonists, Grace's encounters with the care center's failed experiment of The Girl are by far some of the most frightening moments in the series. Even from when Grace first encounters The Girl, and all of her meetings thereafter, she consistently remains one of the most frightening enemies in the game, with her mangled appearance and deadly lethality doing little to help.
The only thing holding The Girl back is that, while she's incredibly frightening and unpredictable on a first playthrough, many of her encounters are scripted to the point where it's fairly easy to avoid her or know exactly when she'll appear. Even with her predictability and her aversion to the light, The Girl still stands out as one of the most nightmarish stalkers the Resident Evil series has seen to date.
2 Jack Baker Is A Haunting Stalker On Just About Any Difficulty
Resident Evil's Most Unassuming Stalker Isn't Any Less Frightening
Despite not being an intentionally made bioweapon like many of the series' other stalkers, Jack Baker's mostly human-like appearance in Resident Evil 7 doesn't make him and his violent tendencies any less horrifying in the slightest. While Jack's maniacal presence and occasional jokes might dull the scare factor for some, everything changes the minute he catches sight of you and starts barreling down hallways or rooms to take you out.
As if Jack's unrelenting stalking through the halls of the Baker house wasn't frightening enough, the fact that he used to be a completely normal dad perfectly encapsulates what makes the mold virus an especially tragic fate for its survivors.
This same mold-based infection also makes Jack practically invincible compared to the highly durable behemoths like Mr. X or Nemesis, to the point where his unrelenting survivability makes the feeling of helplessness grow even more with each encounter. It's especially effective thanks to the knowledge that cutting him in half, setting him on fire, and everything else isn't enough to put the psychopathic maniac down.
1 Mr. X Is Easily Resident Evil's Best Designed Stalker Enemy
An Imposing Threat That Still Keeps Us Up At Night
Even without the over-the-top personality, grotesque figure, or explosive encounters, Mr. X from Resident Evil 2 Remastered is by far the best implementation of the stalker enemy type the series has ever seen. Despite having few scripted appearances, Mr. X constantly keeps players on edge at all times, even with the best of weapons, knowing that even the slightest amount of noise can send him marching after you is incomparable.
With thundering footsteps announcing his presence as a true form stalker, Mr. X can still catch unsuspecting players off guard at random while wandering the halls of the RPD. The fact that Mr. X is still the most iconic stalker enemy yet, despite not even having a single line of dialogue, just goes to show how impressive his implementation really was, with his blank features being even more frightening than Resident Evil's other screaming bioweapons.
