Netflix is one of the most prominent platforms when it comes to original streaming shows, with massive hits like Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Wednesday. Netflix shows continue to be some of the most popular ones releasing new seasons right now, and many of its previous shows already have their own legacies.
Still, there are a number of excellent Netflix shows that never got the attention that they deserve, and have since been forgotten by everyone but their most devoted fans. These series stand out as hidden gems on the streaming platform, even if most TV fans don't even know to look for them. These are the fantastic Netflix shows that nobody remembers.
1 'Pretty Smart' (2021)
Image via NetflixPretty Smart is a sitcom that follows two adult sisters: the uptight, academically-minded Chelsea (Emily Osment), and her carefree, less conventionally successful sister, Claire (Olivia Macklin). When Chelsea hits a tough spot in her life, she suddenly moves to Los Angeles to live with Claire and her three roommates: Grant (Gregg Sulkin), Solana (Cinthya Carmona), and Jayden (Michael Hsu Rosen).
Chelsea is initially very judgmental towards Claire and her roommates, because she believes they're all much less intelligent than she is. As she gets to know them, though, Chelsea reconnects with Claire and becomes friends with her roommates, opening her mind along the way. One of the few multi-camera Netflix original comedy shows, Pretty Smart is a silly and fun show, but it was sadly cancelled after just one season.
2 'Daybreak' (2019)
Image via NetflixBased on Brian Ralph's graphic novel series of the same name, Daybreak follows a teenage boy named Josh Wheeler (Colin Ford) whose life has suddenly improved during the apocalypse. Once invisible to everyone but his girlfriend, Sam (Sophie Simnett), Josh now gets to live wherever he wants and do whatever he wants, and his survival skills from his Canadian upbringing have been coming in handy.
The only problem is staying alive, which is not easy to do with genetically-modified monstrous animals, zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and power-hungry raiders trying to kill Josh and everyone around him. He's also desperate to find Sam, whom he hasn't seen since before the world got destroyed, and who may not even still be alive. Josh teams up with an unlikely group of allies, and they all work to keep themselves and each other alive, and to help him find Sam. The series might not have lived long, but it was a unique take on the zombie genre that deserved much more attention.
3 'Partner Track' (2022)
Image via NetflixPartner Track follows Ingrid Yun (Arden Cho), a successful lawyer with big dreams for her career. Just as Ingrid is on track to finally potentially make partner at her prestigious New York City law firm, her ex-fling, Murphy (Dominic Sherwood), gets hired to work alongside her. In a time when it's more important to stay focused than ever, Ingrid finds herself distracted as she winds up in a love triangle between Murphy and a charming millionaire named Nick (Rob Heaps).
Partner Track fits perfectly alongside other successful Netflix romance shows like Emily in Paris, Nobody Wants This, and XO, Kitty. Over the course of the show, Ingrid fights to be promoted at work while becoming conflicted over her law firm's questionable practices, and finds herself at odds with her main goals in the process. The show was sadly cancelled after just one season, but it still makes for an excellent rewatch.
4 'I Am Not Okay With This' (2020)
Image via NetflixBased on Charles Forsman's graphic novel of the same name, I Am Not Okay with This follows Syd (Sophia Lillis), an angry and overwhelmed teenage girl who's grieving after the death of her father a year earlier. She also struggles after Dina (Sofia Bryant), her best friend for whom she secretly has feelings, starts dating a mean jock named Brad (Richard Ellis). While trying to juggle all of these normal teenage problems, Syd discovers that she has telekinetic powers.
Syd struggles to control her powers, mainly because any strong emotions of hers can set them off. She gets help from her neighbor, Stan (Wyatt Oleff), to try to make sense of her powers, and she uncovers some surprising reveals about the origins of her powers along the way. I Am Not Okay With This is one of the best teen dramas of recent years, thanks to its great ensemble; but it was sadly cancelled after just one season.
5 'Biohackers' (2020–2021)
Image via NetflixBiohackers follows Mia (Luna Wedler), a first-year pre-med student at the University of Freiburg. Mia is especially interested in the biohacking and bodyhacking technologies that are popular on-campus, and she wants to get a position interning for the brilliant Professor Lorenz (Jessica Schwarz). Mia's secret is that she's actually undercover with the intention of exposing Lorenz.
Mia's real name is Emma Engels, and her twin brother died of a genetic disease when they were ten, for which her father always blamed Lorenz. Her parents were killed in a car accident when they were driving to meet a journalist with evidence, so now, Mia is determined to get answers about what happened to her brother. Mia will stop at nothing to get to the truth, even if it means the possibility of hurting and betraying her new friends. Only two seasons long, this German techno-thriller is one that definitely deserves more eyeballs on it.
6 'Greenhouse Academy' (2017–2020)
Image via NetflixGreenhouse Academy is a teen drama that ran for four seasons. It follows two siblings, Hayley (Ariel Mortman) and Alex Woods (Finn Roberts), who have been grieving since their mother died on a space mission. They start attending her alma mater, Greenhouse Academy, an elite boarding school for gifted high schoolers that splits everyone up into two teams: the booksmart Ravens and the athletic Eagles.
When Hayley is assigned to the Ravens and Alex is assigned to the Eagles, they find themselves drifting away from each other as they make new friends. Along the way, they uncover a dangerous conspiracy that is taking place on their very campus — using earthquakes for financial gain. The series blends messy teen drama elements with clever science fiction twists for four unforgettable seasons, and it deserves more attention.
7 'The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window' (2022)
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window is a murder mystery satire miniseries. It follows Anna Whitaker (Kristen Bell), a once-successful artist who's become extremely isolated and paranoid after the brutal murder of her daughter and her subsequent divorce from her husband (Michael Ealy). When Anna observes the murder of one of her neighbors (Shelley Hennig) through her window, she becomes obsessed with solving it, especially because nobody believes her about the murder.
For murder mystery fans who recognize all the classic clichés of the murder mystery genre, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window makes for a really fun watch. It's a hilarious parody of the genre that is intentionally over-the-top, but it also has a compelling murder mystery at its center. For those who love her from Veronica Mars and The Good Place, Kristen Bell anchors the miniseries from start to finish. It keeps you guessing until the very last moment.
