Once again, ICE made headlines for their treatment of US citizens after it used a 5-year-old boy as bait to coax his father from his home. When he came to the aid of his child, they detained the man and his 5-year-old child, pulling them from Minnesota, holding both in a detention center in Texas.
According to reports, 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos has been suffering from ill health while waiting to find out his and his father's fate. Despite being in the US legally, according to their lawyer, the two are still being held, with many others, in conditions that have been reported to be cramped and unclean.
The boy's mother has been doing everything she can to help her son and his father. She has spoken to Minnesota Public Radio about her son's health. The cold, low-quality food, and cramped conditions are taking their toll on the young man, and she is worried his health will continue to decline.
The situation of my husband, Adrian, and my son Liam inside the detention center is deeply concerning. Liam is getting sick because the food they receive is not of good quality. He has stomach pain, he's vomiting, he has a fever, and he no longer wants to eat.
A small glimpse into Liams's condition was shared by Democratic Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro on his visit to the Dilley detention center in Texas. He took photographs and made a video of his visit, condemning the imprisonment of innocent people, including children.
Castro has been very vocal about his thoughts on the methods employed by ICE and the government to tackle immigration in the US. An image he shared on Instagram showed footage of Liam's father with his son sleeping in his arms. Castro stated that Liam kept asking about his hat and backpack seen in the image that circulated after his detention.
The US has come under intense scrutiny from the rest of the world and its own people, as they continue to detain innocent people across the country. Often, they are pulled from their homes and places of work and thrown, without trial, into detention centers and without any idea of when they will be released.
The lawyer representing Liam and his father states that they entered the US legally. According to Tracreports, 73.6% held in ICE detention have no criminal convictions, according to current data as of November 30, 2025.
However, arrests continue across the country, provoking violent protests that have resulted in the murder of civilians — most notably Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who were shot to death on the streets by ICE agents.
