Few movies blend such unique animation, music, action, and humor quite like KPop Demon Hunters. Featuring a trio of K-pop stars who secretly battle demons with their music, the 2025 movie from Sony Pictures took the world by storm. As such, it's no wonder the movie is up for two different Oscars (Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song).
Keeping that in mind, it's fun to think about other great movies (both animated and live-action) that would pair best with Kpop. Here's our top 10 movies to watch with KPop Demon Hunters for a perfect double-feature movie night (featuring films you'd expect...and some you might not).
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
A double feature with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (and/or the first Spider-Verse movie) is an easy recommendation for fans of KPop Demon Hunters thanks to their similar visual creativity.
Pushing animation to new heights, Across the Spider-Verse features unique artistic styles for its various universes. Likewise, both movies heavily rely on music, providing strong tones and themes throughout both. The various tracks in the Spider-Verse movies play a major role in defining Miles Morales’ journey as a new Spider-Man, much like the performances and songs drive the action and emotion in KPop Demon Hunters.
There are also some key shared themes about dual identities and tensions with family to be found in both films. Throw in Across the Spider-Verse's own critical acclaim and Oscar nomination as a hugely popular animated feature, watching the movies back to back just makes sense.
GOAT
Sony Pictures' recently released movie GOAT may seem like an unexpected pairing at first, but it shares some key tonal similarities with KPop Demon Hunters.
Firstly, both share the same high-energy modern animation style, with GOAT also having an impressive soundtrack featuring multiple new hip-hop tracks (not unlike Sony's Spider-Verse movies). Although GOAT centers around a determined goat named Will Harris joining a professional basketball-inspired sport featuring much bigger animal athletes, the action of the highly physical sport itself does have some similar DNA to the action scenes seen in KPop Demon Hunters.
There's also plenty of humor to go around in both films, and a shared focus on teamwork and reliance on friends as a core theme.
The Mitchells vs The Machines
NetflixAnother solid animated companion to KPop Demon Hunters is 2021's The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
Sharing similar animation styles from Sony Pictures, The Mitchells vs The Machines features a family unit working out their various dysfunctions while hilariously trying to save the world from a robot uprising. As such, there's clearly some shared themes with KPop Demon Hunters' Rumi, Zoey, and Mira fighting hordes of demons while also dealing with hidden secrets.
Both movies also balance their more wild and chaotic comedy with strong emotional arcs, and The Mitchells vs the Machines also got an Animated Feature Oscar nomination.
Turning Red
Another solid animated pairing is Disney and Pixar's Turning Red, with both movies having key focuses on music fandoms. In Turning Red, Mei and her friends are obsessed with the fictional boy band named 4*Town, while KPop Demon Hunters sees Huntrix and the demon boy band known as the Saja Boys clashing for the souls of their fans with their music.
Additionally, it's not hard to see the similarities between Mei and Rumi, as both are shown hiding secrets from their friends about their true nature. Additionally, Turning Red also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
Big Hero 6
Another Best Animated Feature Oscar winner, Disney's Big Hero 6 (2014) would be great as a double-feature with KPop Demon Hunters.
Like KPop Demon Hunters, the animated superhero movie focuses on a group of young heroes who come together to protect their city from powerful threats. Featuring high-energy action with solid emotional arcs, both movies share a lot of similar DNA. Likewise, their respective settings are visually similar as well, with the city of San Fransokyo having a similar tone and visual energy.
Kung Fu Panda
Also nominated for Best Animated Feature in 2008, you can't go wrong with Dreamworks' first Kung Fu Panda. Just like KPop Demon Hunters, the film blends stylized combat and martial arts with solid comedy paired with heartfelt character growth.
Likewise, both movies are centered on unlikely heroes stepping into roles they never expected. Just as Jack Black's Po eventually becomes the Dragon Warrior despite his insecurities, we also see Rumi attempting to confront demons in all-new ways despite her secret demon patterns and Huntrix's typical status quo of just slaying any demons who cross their path.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Moving into some live-action options, it can be argued that Scott Pilgram vs The World holds a similar energy to KPop Demon Hunters.
Directed by Edgar Wright, Scott Pilgrim similarly blends rock and music culture with video-game-inspired action. Despite being in live-action, multiple fight scenes are inspired by comic-book and anime, created stylized sequences not unlike what we see at various points in KPop Demon Hunters.
While perhaps somewhat unconventional, I do think it'd be a solid pairing for a double-feature night.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
For fans looking for a live-action action movie with similar fantasy elements and cultural influences, Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings also serves as a fun pairing.
Not unlike KPop Demon Hunters, Shang-Chi similarly blends solid martial arts choreography with mystical powers and the supernatural. Both stories also have heroes dealing with hidden worlds and realities that exist alongside everyday society.
Birds of Prey
Another great live-action pairing might be DC's Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn). One of the DCEU's most unique films, the DC movie features bright energy, chaotic action sequences, and a group of powerful women coming together to take on a dangerous foe none of them could feasibly take on alone.
While the themes and tone are arguably more grounded than the animated demon-hunting adventure we see in KPop Demon Hunters (and definitely more mature), the team dynamics and stylized actions sequences do make the pairing work pretty well.
Sinners
For those looking to watch as many Oscar-nominated movies as possible ahead of the upcoming awards show, Ryan Coogler's Sinners might actually be a solid pairing with KPop Demon Hunters, albeit a far darker viewing experience compared to the other pairings we've suggested.
In KPop Demon Hunters, Rumi, Zoey, and Mira secretly protect the world from demons hiding among humanity. Sinners, meanwhile, focuses on characters discovering sinister supernatural influences threatening the lives of their community that slowly begins corrupting those they know and love.
Both movies have major supernatural threats with demons and vampires, though Sinners of course leans far more into realistic horror elements. Despite the key tonal contrast, both movies also feature music as a key driving force (though that contrast arguably works to the advantage of a double feature).
At any rate, there's a very strong likelihood that KPop Demon Hunters will win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature of 2025, while Sinners will win Best Picture. When and if that happens, there may soon be even more reason to hold a double-feature night with both movies in the award show's aftermath.
KPop Demon Hunters is streaming on Netflix from Sony Pictures.
