10 Indiana Jones & The Great Circle Mysteries You’ll Definitely Want To Solve

14 hours ago 6

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has no shortage of mysteries sprinkled throughout the course of the adventures, but not all of them are equally worthwhile. Slimmer than extensive Fieldwork side quests but more involving than collectible-hunting, mysteries tend to task Indy with small puzzles to solve or clues to follow. The reward for doing so can vary, but even if nothing else is on the table, solving a mystery always provides a healthy dose of adventure points.

The best mysteries in The Great Circle tend to be the ones that deviate from the norm the most, offering unique puzzle concepts or interesting bits of narrative. On the other hand, a few are appealing primarily because of their simplicity, especially if a quick diversion leads to an exclusive reward. Regardless, no playthrough of The Great Circle is complete without at least a little mystery-solving, and that process might as well focus on the more memorable and rewarding ones.

10 House Of God Is A Nice Sample With A Helpful Prize

Location: The Vatican

Depending on how quickly Indy finds his way into the Apostolic Palace, the House of God could easily be one of the first mysteries encountered in the game. Although it's not an involved one, it's definitely one that's worth completing. Deciphering the workings of an ornate puzzle box awards Indy with an Adventure Book that shows the location of relics in the Vatican, giving would-be completionists a helpful head start.

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Review: Already A Priceless Artifact

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle valiantly attempts to recapture what makes the movies special, and like Indy himself, it usually lands on its feet.

Despite its simplicity, House of God also sets the stage nicely for how bespoke many of the best Great Circle mysteries feel. Even the puzzle box and its auxiliary components are only included for a minor piece of side content, they're beautifully detailed, and it's easy to marvel at the artifact in the same way that Indy himself would.

9 Cloud Atlas Unlocks A Medicine Map

Location: Gizeh

Cloud Atlas is another Indiana Jones and the Great Circle mystery that's mostly utilitarian, but that doesn't mean that the quick process of solving the puzzle isn't fun. This particular mystery, found in Gizeh, centers around solving the code to open a Nazi chest. Figuring out the answer relies on a process of picking up notes and cross-referencing them, ultimately converting a series of dates into different numbers based on the clouds recorded on those days.

Opening the chest grants Indy some adventure points, but the contents are more significant. 50 Egyptian Pounds accompany the Gizeh Medicine book, which maps out the locations of medicine bottles in the area.

8 A Date To Remember Starts A Trend

Location: The Vatican

Players who covered the Vatican thoroughly will probably find Cloud Atlas a bit familiar, as the Vatican mystery A Date To Remember operates on a similar premise. Although the material being cross-referenced is different, it also relies on figuring out the correct chest code based on the information found in a few notes. There's only one date involved in this one, but working it out requires an understanding of where a communication line got garbled.

The main reward for A Date To Remember also follows the same tack, as the chest houses the Adventure Book covering the location of medicine in the Vatican. A letter provides some bonus reading material, and the 10 Lira inside may not be much, but it's something.

7 Fortune's Reach Unlocks A Strong Adventure Book

Location: Gizeh

Fortune's Reach is an easy mystery to miss in Gizeh. A small wanted poster is slapped on the shack next to Nawal's tent, which points Indy to a nearby spot to start tracking some thieves. Following a series of footprints that start in a spill of red paint before fading as they go leads to a nearby excavation, where Indy can see the fate of the escapade and pick up a new Adventure Book.

The Adventure Book in question is True Grit, which reduces the damage taken on Indy's last bar of health, a highly useful tweak. Although the process of solving the Fortune's Reach mystery is quick, the way that the trail of footprints fades does make it a little more interesting than missions in games more concerned with spoon-feeding information to the player.

6 Timely Arrival Completes A Trilogy

Location: Sukhothai

After A Date To Remember and Cloud Atlas, it may come as no surprise that Sukhothai also hides a book of medicine bottle locations behind a similar mystery. This time, it's about working out a day of the week rather than a specific calendar date, with an encryption code and slight familiarity with the Italian language for flavor. The essential concepts in play, however, remain familiar.

How to find a Royal Army Uniform disguise and get into the Sukhothai underground boxing ring, the Bruiser Pit, in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

This concept might not feel as fresh by this point in the game, but Timely Arrival still requires its own unique process to solve. Getting the book of medicine locations might be even more worth the trouble than in the previous regions, as uncovering the secrets of Sukhothai can be challenging. It's not a particularly hard mystery to find, as long as Indy spends some time poking around the fascist camp in the center of Sukhothai.

5 A Free Spirit Is Fun For Cat Lovers

Location: The Vatican

A Free Spirit isn't one of the most rewarding quests in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in terms of tangible benefits, but it's a must for cat lovers. This mystery tasks Indy with finding a missing feline named Signor Smushki, who got lost somewhere around the Tower of Nicholas V. Smushki isn't the only cat in the area, so embarking on the hunt will likely lead Indy to photograph a few alternatives as well.

The search for Signor Smushki is a nice way to uncover some of the verticality in the Vatican, and although Indy can't pet the cats, it's nice to see them all. While a pile of Adventure Points is all Indy gets for the endeavor, it's more important to know that Smushki's owner won't be fearing for their missing cat any longer.

4 Path Of Tigers Has A Fun Exploration Opportunity

Location: Sukhothai

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle frequently rewards players for paying attention to the environment, and Path of Tigers is one of the most literal examples. After finding a photograph of a particular location, Indy needs to scout out a spot that matches the photo. An inscription with a safe code can be found at the destination, which can be used upon returning to the flooded house where the photograph was found.

Path of Tigers is a fun mystery for those who enjoy the process of exploration, and the safe unlocked with the code contains something more valuable than money. The Adventure Book Jumbo Grip lets Indy grab beefy enemies when brawling, which could be useful both in the underground boxing rings and in some of the tougher areas in the later parts of the game.

3 Monkey Business Is Both Charming & Useful

Location: Sukhothai

While most of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle's tendency toward cuteness lies in its love of cats, Monkey Business is a surprisingly adorable mystery with a different focus. Found in Sukhothai, Monkey Business tasks Indy with hunting down the monkeys who stole the keys to a fascist equipment room. Tracking them down reveals a scene of endearing bandits, with one monkey wearing an Italian army helmet much more stylishly than any of Mussolini's troops would.

Unsurprisingly, recovering the key provides access to some helpful equipment. Most notably, Indy can pick up the Slugger 2 book, which makes charged attacks more devastating. A typical Adventure Points bonus subsidizes the cost of unlocking the upgrade, and Indy can also stock up on supplies like bandages and bullets while he's in the equipment room.

2 The Serpent's Chest Is The Most Complex

Location: The Vatican, Gizeh, Sukhothai

Most mysteries are self-contained in the region they're found in, but The Serpent's Chest stands out by requiring Indy to do some work across all three major areas of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It's not a secret, as a prompt explaining that he'll have to revisit previous locations pops up upon finding the chest, but it does prove to be one of the more complex ventures.

Can You Keep Playing Indiana Jones & The Great Circle After Beating It?

It's not strange to wonder if you can keep playing Indiana Jones And The Great Circle After Beating It, but the answer should please many players.

The prize for completing the whole endeavor is just an ancient relic, which could prove disappointing for those who aren't bothering to find every relic. For completionists, however, this quest is a must, and it's an interesting challenge for anyone as long as the rainbow doesn't need to have a pot of gold on the other side.

1 A Game Of Wits Features An Exceptional Puzzle

Location: Sukhothai

When it comes to bespoke puzzle concepts for mysteries in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it's hard to do better than A Game of Wits. This challenge found in Sukhothai operates in a similar function to a chess puzzle, setting up a board and demanding that the player find an optimal solution to a scenario in only a few moves. The game in question isn't chess, however, but Mak-yek, which has every piece move like a rook and features its own rules for capture.

A Game of Wits accompanies the setup with a brief overview of Mak-yek's rules, and the scenario is simple enough to be solved without prior experience. It still takes some thought, however, and having the eureka moment is especially exciting. The prizes for completion are another dose of adventure points and a helping of cash, but the experience of learning a new game in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle should be satisfying enough on its own for any Mak-yek newcomers.
