In the era of streaming, there are always new series to check out for viewers of all tastes, and the best TV shows to stream this week highlight that fact. With Netflix, Hulu, Max, and the other big-name streamers constantly putting out content, there are new shows and new episodes of hit series becoming available each week. With so much out there, it can be hard to keep track of everything that should be on the watchlist, but there are some notable titles worth pointing out.
With January 2025 in full swing, this week includes a lot of returning shows including police procedural series like The Rookie as well as sitcoms like Abbott Elementary. Alongside the returning shows, there are also some exciting new series making their premiere. Tim Allen returns to television in Shifting Gears while Noah Wyle makes an exciting return to the medical drama genre. A new Netflix documentary takes a look behind the scenes of one of the wildest and most talked-about talk shows of all time. Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action is a docuseries detailing the secrets behind The Jerry Springer Show, a pop culture hit hosted by Springer, which excelled at bringing in guests to tackle outrageous topics and insight into chaotic interactions between those on stage, including all-out brawls. However, as wild as things were onstage, the behind-the-scenes stories of the show are even more so.
The docuseries exposes the dark secrets of the show, such as the manipulation of guests and the outright lies. However, some of the most interesting aspects of Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action are looking at the popularity of the show and the controversies it created at the time. Both episodes of the two-part series dropped on Netflix on January 7.

This week sees the return of a Disney+ show that offers a lot to fans who enjoy a mix of comedy, family-friendly fun, and a little bit of horror. Inspired by the popular book series from author R.L. Stine, Goosebumps is an anthology series with each season dealing with a new supernatural adventure featuring young heroes dealing with threats inspired by Stine’s book series. The second season of the show sees siblings visiting their father for a relaxing summer vacation only to unleash a mysterious evil.
Goosebumps is a fun light horror ride for younger audiences while also offering some nostalgia to older fans who might remember the books or the 90s television series they inspired. While Justin Long and the cast of the first season will not be returning, there are some new young faces along with David Schwimmer to guide season 2. Goosebumps season 2 dropped all of its episodes on Disney+ on January 10.

Tim Allen’s return to television is certainly a noteworthy moment for the new year, especially as it is alongside the always-talented Kat Dennings. The two stars team up for the new sitcom Shifting Gears in which Allen stars as the owner of a car mechanic shop who is surprised when his estranged daughter (Dennings) comes back into his life. In need of a new start, she and her two kids move in with her father, reigniting their one combative relationship while also trying to move forward.
Allen seems aiming for a return to his blue-collar humor that made Home Improvement one of the biggest sitcoms of the 1990s. Having Dennings’ dry humor will be an interesting balance to his persona while the movie will also see the return of Seann William Scott in a supporting role. John Wells brings along E.R. original cast member Noah Wyle for their shared return to the world of hospitals and doctors with The Pitt. The series also has a gripping and intense premise as the entire 15-episode first season will unfold over the course of one 15-hour shift for Wyle’s protagonist Dr. Michael Robinavitch.
Medical dramas like E.R. have often done a great job of showing the chaos of a typical day of work for these medical professionals, but The Pitt may be the most effective at showing how harrowing these long days can be. With the set-up blending 24 with E.R., it makes for a pulse-pounding experience. Also, while E.R. pushed the boundaries of network television, The Pitt embraces the freedom of streaming and delivers a brutal and gory look at the business of saving lives.
