There are quite a few hidden gems on Steam that offer players a chance to play for free before they decide to go all in and buy a game. One such brand-new RPG is like a strange yet beautiful collision between the original Zelda and Final Fantasy classics, and it's definitely worth checking out.

Not to be confused with Final Fantasy, Philna Fantasy is a new retro-style 2D pixel-art RPG that incorporates deep exploration, dungeon crawling, puzzle-solving, crafting mechanics, and loot-collection elements that some players are calling "very fun and addictive." Philna Fantasy's free demo is currently available to download and play on Steam, and despite middling user reviews so far, fans of the game have very high praise.

This New Steam Game Has Charming Retro Vibes

Philna Fantasy is well worth checking out if you're a fan of retro 2D games, and if you're an RPG fan in general. Players choose from one of several classes and embark on a journey to "fight back against the invading shadow." Gameplay elements include exploration and dungeon-crawling, with puzzles and crafting elements as core features as well.

Philna Fantasy was released a few weeks ago by indie developer Sailike Game, and is currently available as a free-to-try demo on Steam. The full game is also available for purchase at a slight discount for the time being, and assuming you play the demo and like what you see, the deal will expire in roughly two days.

While Philna Fantasy has received quite a few mixed reviews so far, users that enjoyed the game have extremely positive things to say about it. Stylistically, kevinforce notes that "The pixel art is great, and you can tell a lot of love went into it," while players such as yosur13 say it has "great visuals and story" and highly recommends the RPG for Steam Deck users as well.

Think Zelda Crossed With Final Fantasy

Fans of the original The Legend of Zelda or early Final Fantasy experiences are in for a nostalgic treat when it comes to Philna Fantasy, with some of the game's elements clearly drawing inspiration from these iconic classics. Philna Fantasy includes a deep class-based progression system akin to Final Fantasy's quintessential and genre-defining RPG elements.

All told, Philna Fantasy is a must-try game even if you're on the fence about it based on its Mixed user reviews. Considering you can play a decent portion of the game through the free demo on Steam first to see if it's for you, there's really no reason not to try it out for yourself.
