Functioning as a quasi-sequel series for Young Sheldon, a vital part of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage is following the Coopers' story on the heels of George's death. So while the Coopers are no longer at the center of its storytelling, they remain an integral part of Georgie's arc, as he takes on the role left by his father. Multiple times throughout its run thus far, Mary's firstborn dropped Sheldon's name, as he dealt with some of his long-distance requests. Still, there is growing interest in knowing when the socially-inept genius might show up.
In light of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage season 3 renewal, Iain Armitage was asked by TVInsider about the chances of the actor finally appearing as Sheldon. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there's a definite plan to bring back Sheldon anytime soon, and he totally understands. He expressed his desire to hopefully comeback "one day," but for now, he's happy to just watch the show unfold like the rest of the fan base. Read his full quote below:
“The cool thing about the entire Big Bang, Young Sheldon, Georgie & Mandy universe is the fact that each spin-off show has really kind of taken on its own unique flavor as it’s been on television,”
“Maybe a holiday episode one day, but in the meantime, I like getting to sit back, and they don’t make me work. I like to sit back and watch it as a fan, too.”
At this point, Sheldon is the only member of the Cooper family who has yet to make an appearance in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. Mary, Missy, and Meemaw have all been involved multiple times throughout its two-season run. Dale and Pastor Jeff have also been in the show. Even Lance Barber, whose character is already dead, has had a role; in fact, George is due for another cameo as Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage season 2 continues. So understandably, fans are eager to see Sheldon in the flesh again.
It's worth noting that Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has had a couple of holiday-themed episodes that would have been the perfect vehicle for Sheldon's return. While The Big Bang Theory did establish that he came back to his hometown rarely since moving to Pasadena, California, it's getting more difficult to believe that he hasn't returned during the first few years since his dad died, especially since at that point, he has yet to meet Leonard, Raj, and Howard, meaning he is virtually alone.
That said, it also makes sense that Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage is not rushing Sheldon's return. For starters, the show is a departure from The Big Bang Theory franchise's true lead character, so it needs to first establish this new world that Georgie and Mandy are spearheading before bringing back the socially-inept genius. Secondly, saving Sheldon's appearance allows them to have something truly special for an upcoming milestone episode.
