You Can Catch Stardew Valley’s Most Infamous Couple With This Secret Note

1 week ago 11

Stardew Valley is full of secrets, ranging from mysterious casino owners to needy raccoon families, but one of the most well-known secrets involves a certain political figure from Pelican Town. Every player of Stardew Valley that’s played at least a few seasons knows that Mayor Lewis and Marnie, the friendly animal lover, are in a secret relationship. What every player might not know is that there’s a way to catch the pair in an embarrassing moment.

After both Mayor Lewis’s very private purple short quest and the Six Heart event between Marnie and Lewis, there’s no room for speculation that the pair have something going on. One secret note in the game not only explicitly confirms the relationship between Mayor Lewis and Marnie, but allows players to catch the pair together like lovestruck teenagers. By finding secret note 21 and following its hints, players can catch the mayor and Marnie in a very private moment.

Where To Find Note 21 In Stardew Valley

Secret Notes Can Only Be Found After The First Winter

To start the process of discovering the best-kept secret in Stardew Valley, players will need to get to their first Winter of Year 1 and begin the quest called “A Winter Mystery”. This first quest gives players their first glimpse of Krobus, who gives the player a magnifying glass after being tracked down by his footprints. Once they’ve secured the magnifying glass, players will be able to discover secret notes all over the valley and Pelican Town through all sorts of activities like cutting down trees, catching treasure chests while fishing, and from monster loot.

Krobus can be found hiding in the playground after the "A Winter Mystery" quest begins.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to seek out specific secret notes, since they spawn in a random order, unlike the Lost Books. To get secret note 21, players will have to get lucky while mowing weeds or digging up artifact spots. Since there are 27 secret notes with equal chance to spawn, it may take a while for players to chase down a specific note.

What Note 21 Means For Marnie & Lewis In Stardew Valley

A Secret Location Hidden Right In Pelican Town

There’s no way to discover the surprise of secret note 21 without finding it first. This isn’t universally true for all secret notes, as other secret notes lead players to Easter Eggs that are available without needing a corresponding note. Note 21 is a relatively simple puzzle to figure out, as it shows an arrow pointing at a bush next to a bridge alongside the moon and a clock indicating 12:40. Since the moon is next to the clock, that signifies that it’s meant to be 12:40am. The location shown on the map is easy to find as well, as it’s situated right in Pelican Town near the entrance to the Beach.

Stardew Valley may be the gold standard when it comes to indie farming sims, but there are fortunately plenty of games that match it in quality.

The giant red arrow in secret note 21 makes sure to indicate that the second bush to the left, closest to the tree, is the one players need to interact with. Like other secret notes, any suggestion of a specific time means that the secret must be discovered at that exact time or else it won’t be revealed. Thankfully, there’s no specific date for this secret, which means that it can be discovered on whatever day is convenient for the player.

Note 21 Reveals Surprise Marnie & Lewis Scene

Two Full-Grown Adults Hiding In Shrubbery

Once players have arrived at the far left bush next to the bridge leading to the Beach at exactly 12:40am, they’ll be able to interact with the bush by simply clicking on it. This will cause Mayor Lewis and Marnie to leap out of the bush at the same time and flee in opposite directions, having been caught by the player in the middle of their secret affair. What makes this secret note so hilarious is that there’s no reason for Marnie and Lewis to keep their relationship a secret, since they’re both single older adults, and Lewis has a huge empty house to invite Marnie to.

Sadly, this behavior makes sense after players have seen the Six Hearts event for Mayor Lewis and Marnie. In the event cutscene, Marnie asks about making their relationship public, but the mayor prefers to keep their relationship under wraps since he believes it might undermine his authority if the whole town knows. Since Mayor Lewis is someone who prefers keeping his personal business private, despite leaving his shorts and secret projects laying around town for anyone to find, his desire to hide his romantic feelings in Stardew Valley does make sense.
