Hungry for some new episodes of Showtime‘s “Yellowjackets“? Ravenous perhaps? Well dig in, because your first look at Season 3 is here.
Featuring returning players Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cyprus, Lauren Ambrose, and Elijah Wood, the older cast is now joined by Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank in an unknown role, but one thing’s for sure: She doesn’t seem happy to be crossing paths with this crew.
In the past timeline of the series, winter is finally subsiding, giving way to spring, but that doesn’t mean any less troubles ahead for the stranded teens, as their animalistic tendencies only seem to be growing with each passing day. In addition to living characters played by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, and Courtney Eaton, the first looks also hints at the return of Ella Purnell as the ghost of Jackie, the first eaten by the group. The footage was first revealed on Saturday at CCXP, a fan convention held in São Paolo, Brazil, and in addition to Purnell’s appearance, audiences were also given the indication that more cannibalism would be coming.
Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and co-showrun by Jonathan Lisco, “Yellowjackets” is a dual narrative that volleys back and forth between the present-day goings-on of a traumatized group of former high school soccer players and their past experiences being stranded in the wilderness following a horrific plane crash. With their cabin shelter burnt down at the end of Season 2, the girls now find themselves in an even more dire situation, pitted against one another in a fight for survival.
Meanwhile in the present storyline, the chickens are coming home to roost as the women face the fallout from their past actions and how it inexorably changed them all on a fundamental level. On top of keeping the truth of their time in the woods a secret, the women must also face the grief of losing another one of their own, with Natalie, played by Juliette Lewis, having sacrificed herself to save another.
Swank appears towards the conclusion of the first look, beaten up and standing on the side of the road, seemingly trying to evade someone’s oncoming threat. Who could this be? Unfortunately, we all have to wait until February 14, 2025 to find out, but you can watch the first look right now below.
