In case you missed it, Xbox occasionally offers free game weekends, during which anyone can play a selection of highlighted games for a limited time. Sometimes it's limited to Xbox Game Pass subscribers, but this time, it's completely free.
While several games are being offered this time, there is one that stands out, and you may not have played it before.
The Sinking City Remastered Is Free With Weekend
Remastered Is A 2025 Release
Originally released in 2019 as The Sinking City, it was eventually remastered on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025. Now, it's free this weekend for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
Here's a quick blurb to see if the game is for you: "Experience the Lovecraftian horror of The Sinking City in a whole new light. This Unreal Engine 5 remaster brings the game’s eerie atmosphere to life with stunning visuals and enhanced features. Dive into Oakmont’s mysteries and unravel the city’s descent into madness."
The game is described as having an "oppressive atmosphere and story," which will appeal to many people. Given that this is a roughly 25-hour game thematically set in the 1920s and deals with supernatural forces, it's going to be up a lot of people's alleys. It's also something you could feasibly finish during the Free Play Days period if you don't have plans this weekend.
For folks interested, it's also available on Steam for 80% off, and all the DLC is 50-60% off. If you want it permanently, it's available and now is a pretty good time to spring on it if it's been on your wishlist for a while. Remember, the Free Play Days promo ends after the weekend, so you only have a limited time to try it on Xbox.
Game Pass Members Get Even More Free Games
As a reminder, this session of Free Play Days is completely free and does not require an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, or Essential membership. Anyone who is a registered Xbox user can partake, but after Sunday, March 1, these games will revert to paid experiences.
Here is everything being offered for Free Play Days:
- Anno 117: Pax Romana
- Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration
- Stuffed
- Moving Out 2
- Marathon
- The Sinking City Remastered
There is one exception to the March 1 end date, however. The Marathon server slam is happening this weekend and will run through March 2. Select games are on sale as well, so if you enjoy them, you can buy them cheaply.
If you're an Xbox Game Pass subscriber and haven't been taking advantage of Free Play Days, you should change that. There are a lot of experiences on offer through the program that you shouldn't miss.
