For years, Xbox and PlayStation have battled over features, exclusives, and more. While the playing field heated up during the Xbox 360 era, when Microsoft gained significant traction, PlayStation has pulled ahead in the years since.

The Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S have struggled to gain ground in some markets, and, aside from the Wii U, Nintendo is adding a lot of competition to the mix.

Now, thanks to a new confirmation directly on X from current Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, we know that Xbox is planning a feature that Sony has held over their head for a long time.

This week on X, Sharma took to the social media platform to share that new features were coming in the form of voice chat in-game captures, new ways to view achievements, more control over cloud saves, and more games on a wishlist. In a simple exchange on X, a fan asked Sharma directly if the team is planning on "solving" the Platinum trophy equivalent for Xbox, to which she responded: "Team is working on something for later this year!"

Fans are generally excited, but skeptical, like this response: "I'm indifferent to a Platinum equivalent, but would change my mind if it works properly right away. There's been several 'unlock all achievements' achievements in various games over the years that are either completely unobtainable or are obtainable... after a patch rolls out."

Some folks are hoping they're called "Emerald Achievements," named for the Xbox's iconic green look. Others want more than just a Platinum equivalent: "Hopefully we get revolutionary change to relock unlocked achievements, to clean up those games that we just tested and unlocked a single achievement, or just simply enjoy unlocking them again in our favorite games. That would make the years waiting worth it."

Others think there's some unfinished business beyond the Platinum implementation: "Asha, please use your executive powers, and get whoever is in control of achievements on the Xbox Network to permanently delete ALL permanently-unobtainable achievements on the Xbox Network from all games? We KNOW achievements can be deleted, so PLEASE fix this."

Either way, achievements are getting an overhaul on the Xbox ecosystem later this year. It's going to be a pretty big change, but if it can be implemented by the end of 2026, Xbox fans have something to look forward to.
