After the official announcement at this year's Summer Game Fest of the last installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, Revelation, fans of the franchise are absolutely hyped for what's to come. With an exciting preview of both gameplay and story teasers, it promises to give fans the epic conclusion they've been waiting on for years.

However, that's not the only major new Final Fantasy project on the way, with Final Fantasy Resonance officially on the way as well, which will see the franchise return to its roots with the first HD-2D entry in the series. Further, Final Fantasy XIV will be getting a major new expansion called Evercold, ushering in a new era for the long-running MMORPG in January 2027.

And according to a recent post on Reddit from the Gen Con 2026 event, it looks like Final Fantasy will be getting a brand-new game, with Final Fantasy: Origins Of Light officially revealed at the Kess Entertainment booth (via Reddit).

Thanks to Reddit user xander574, it looks like gamers can expect an official Final Fantasy board game titled Origins of Light to get an official announcement from Kess Entertainment sometime soon. The tabletop game will apparently recreate Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 3 in a unique new experience based on the pixel-art remasters for PlayStation.

The project was quietly preloaded on Kickstarter as well, though there are virtually no details available at the moment and the Gen Con booth made it clear that the version on the floor was not finalized. The Kickstarter page lists the board game as in the process of being published, but you can follow the project for updates as they're made available.

While we don't know much about actual gameplay so far for Final Fantasy: Origins of Light, Kess Entertainment's previous licensed titles offer some clues as to what players can expect. Games like Sonic Roll and Mega Man Adventures feature co-op gameplay, asymmetrical character abilities, campaign progression, and mechanics designed to recreate the feel of their respective video games on the tabletop.

If Origins of Light follows suit, players can likely expect a cooperative adventure where each character has unique strengths, progression is tied to iconic locations and bosses, and the tabletop systems aim to capture the flavor of the original Final Fantasy games.
