EXCLUSIVE: Wscripted has unveiled its sixth Cannes Screenplay List showcasing projects by female and non-binary filmmakers and screenwriters seeking producing and financing partners. (scroll down for full-list)
The list is presented in partnership with MUBI, a long-time supporter of women in cinema, with recent female-directed acquisitions including Cannes 2026 Un Certain Regard opener Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma by Jane Schoenbrun.
The 30 screenplays on this year’s list include When We Were Sisters by Fatimah Asghar, known for HBO web series Brown Girls and Ms. Marvel on Disney+.
Sri Lankan-British filmmaker Chloe Abrahams is also spotlighted with her first narrative feature Before the Echo Makes a Sound, set in Sri Lanka. She previously made waves with The Taste of Mango, which won the British Independent Film Award for Best Debut Documentary and the Audience Award at the BFI London Film Festival.
Angelique Knights, who won a Canadian Screen Award as producer of Bria Mack Gets a Life, has also been selected with her directorial debut feature Ecdysis, set in the world of music video models during the height of music television in 2000s.
In a new development, the list was presented to producers on the new digital platform Wscripted+ in a bid to better matchmake projects
“After five years pitching projects from the Cannes Screenplay List to producers during the Cannes Film Market, we decided to do things differently for 2026 and let producers discover the shortlist directly by leveraging Wscripted+’s innovative technology, ” said Ellie Jamen, Founder of Wscripted.
Jamen said Wscripted was hoping to shorten the lead times for development and financing with the new system.
“We bet on innovative technology to remove barriers so producers can discover the right projects that fit with their creative mandate. This is an important part of our work to champion the incredible projects by women selected on the Cannes Screenplay List”
Recent Wscripted success stories from former nominees include the pre-sale of Jumai Yusuf’s Cocoa Doll, which was on the Second Cannes Screenplay List. It has since been acquired by international sales agent Fearfolks, while Jake Casey and Jonathan Unger are producing.
Nathalie Marchak’s A Beautiful Journey, nominated on the Inaugural Cannes Screenplay List also announced Shailene Woodley as lead star with Anonymous Federation and Gabman producing.
Wscripted received 300 applications this year for this year’s list.
